what is the best way to dispatch pigeon without damaging the bird to use as decoys

 

can you get a tool to dispatch them?

You can get a tool to dispatch them, but there bout £30 for some off set pliers. What i do is hold the bird in the left hand twist the head round with my finger till it cant go no more then a sharp twist the same way will do the trick, no flapping of wings this way and no feathers all over the decoy pattern, have a go on a fresh dead bird first see how u get on.

 

Dont hold it by its head and swing the head will come off and blood goes every where and it looks like an amature

i hold the birds wings into its body ith both hands and push my thumbs into its back just beneath the kneck line till you feel it click this bracks the back no flapping of wings the head tilts back and the bird is dead. works for me clean bird aswell no neck pulling or wringing i find if i wring necks the heads go a bit floppy on craddles or whirly birds.

have seen this been done but think it takes bit longer for the bird to die from broken back

no mate its pretty quick and the bird doesnt flap hardly at all as it does with the neck job as it snaps the spinal cord and paralyses it.

lol end up pulling head off and putting thumbs through into breast cage lol but you gotta start and learn somewhere atb.

we all carry a 177 pistol with us decoying do we?? we got enough to carry,not including the overall bag at the end of the day.i use the back breaking method however i usuaully shoot straight resulting in a dead or a missed bird.

iv'e tried allsorts in the past but what i find best is to hold the bird by both wings facing away from you the bird will tilt it's head back, you then give it a sharp tap with a priest or as i use the handle of a sheath knife.
