I'm a great believer in the old addage "you only get out what you put in" ! This probably comes from my Whippet and Greyhound days; but I think it applies more to Lurchers, if you are working them hard ! With track dogs, you can tell by the handicapper, and the oposition, how well your dog is running; but with a Lurcher, it's only against the quarry that you can grade your dog. One night on the lamp, the dog may be OK, but four nights in a row, as I've just done with my bitch, will let you know if the dog is fit or not !! Good feed, good excersise, good kenneling and you can't go far wrong !

Cheers.

That's true mate but this guy is comparing one brand of mixer with another. It ain't going to make a world of difference what brand you use, they are mostly all the same. Obviously if your feeding a working dog on tinned dog food and expect it to put in a shift it ain't gonna happen but to compare one brand of mixer with another and expect miracles is folly.

Just going back to my 1st post on this; I feed a cheap complete food, mixed with fresh barf. The complete is instead of rusk or buscuit. The dogs also get mackeral, trout, rabbit, or whatever game I happen to have at the time of the season. I's easy to feed a dog well, and cheaply if you are prepared to search around for the gear. I would never feed my dogs on "complete" alone.

Cheers.

I knew you weren't picking up what the guy was asking mate. He thinks you just buy a 20 kilo back of mix and bobs your aunti.... f****n superlurch!!!

i never said i was the only one that has to work for a living and look after a lurcher and yes i do have the time to walk and lamp him because that is most important he cant be in a kennell all day and no matter what time of nite anyone finish they have to be exercised

You have a freezer right? Cook the food on your day off, bag it and freeze it. Every night when you feed him take a bag out of the freezer for the next day. It's the only way mate, the dog can't just eat mixer ff's, would you like that?

Buy yourself an old Burco water boiler, boil 4 or 5 rabbits whole, add veg, meal or brown bread, and most butchers have marrow bones, feed twice a week, also shin beef, veg and pasta good, liver thick gravy and veg, supplement with dry feed, use your imagination mate and come up with your own menu. Feed what suits your dog, I had an old bitch if I used higher than 20% protein her jacket fell out.

Good food good kennels not just a bowl full of shit. I spend alot of time mixing and preparing barf for the whole month. Cheaper food but the best you only get out what you put in.
