Good dogs are made,,not bought.

That's bullshit. The country is full of good dogs with shitty owners who wouldn't know how to get the best out of them and never will. I've just read a post regarding some poor mutt called bailey who hasn't been given a chance but is ready to be enter into the bring a buy sale known as lurcherdom. Some knuckle head will buy it cos it looks the part even though the dog hasn't been trained and they don't have the capabilities to f*****g train it. he'll use it out lampin, it'll pull down a sheep, get passed from pillar to post....... all the while the f****n dog could be the best thing since BS (Before Saluki) but will it ever get a chance............ There are far more bad owners out there than bad dogs thats a FACT!!!

in my oppinion lads i think a dog should give 100% every time it is ran dont get me wrong all dogs have a bad night time to time ;)

You reckon? I dunno..... I think the more a dog is out the less effort it gives or should I say, needs to. A good dog isn't the fastest but the one who reads what is happening quicker and the only way it can do this is through experience. It's like a football player, the best players in the world aren't always the fastest even though speed plays a big part. But the most important part is reading the game, knowing what will happen before it does. It's like us, when you lamp your land, you pretty much know whats the best way to lamp it, where the rabbits will run, etc etc. The more you get farmiliar with it, the less effort goes into it cos you don't need to. Same with the dog. There will be nights where everything doesn't go the way the dog thinks it will and these are the nights where you think the dog ain't trying but he is, just it didn't work out for him. Shit happens, don't take life so serious and enjoy, you ain't out in the f*****g cold to catch rabbits but to enjoy trying to....

Bullshit?? Surely your statement confirms what merle24 said? It takes a good trainer to make a good dog. a good trainer will make a better dog out of an average one than a messer will make of the best breeding in the world.

Depends how you read it.... made, i took it as breed. Now that you've pointed out he meant made as in, trained, I appoligise(how the f**k do you spell that) and agree with him 100%

difficilt subject, with the best will in the world even thr best trainer/bloke couldnt make me do the 100 yrds in less than a week on a good day. most dogs can be brought on to perform well and someone who knows the game will get them to perform to the best of their ability, but some dogs are just better than others, sometimes its down to breedind sometimes down to luck you have a choice of pup, could be one cracker amongst them, could be all crackers, could be all crap. you pays your money and takes your chance.

you have to admit though, a good trainer will make a decent dog come good whilst a knuckle dragger could ruin the best of dogs. I know you need a decent dog to begin with but there are a lot of decent dogs for sale that haven't had a fair crack at the whip. You ever read the story of red rum?
