In hindsight perhaps a puppy wasn't such a good plan for you . . . . .. . however if you have your mind set on keeping him, you NEED to get some rules and routine started.

* Increase training sessions, buy a book and spend time with home alone, without the kids. Even 10 mins will be enough, a few times a day.

*Give him his own space, a crate/kennel that is completely out of bounds to the kids. Put him in there to rest and just get him out the way after a walk.

*Give him a good quailty diet, anything with coloured biscuits is like giving kids smarties.

*Go to the butcher and buy him fresh raw bones, they are pence but worth their wait in gold. Chewing will tire him out and help teeth etc etc. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN BOTHER HIM WHEN HE'S GOT BONES, ITS HIS TIME, IN HIS CAGE.

* And him looking for you when you leave, following you around is not always a good thing. It can mean he's getting seperation anxiety. You need to make him less dependent on you. More time in a seperate room with bones/toys.

* Give him set boudaries, where he can and can't go, stick to them and be firm. DO NOT LOOSE YOUR TEMPER WITH HIM.

I hope the above is of some use, IMO the dog is completely un suitable for your life style right now from what you've described. However its your choice, just don't make the same mistake as many and allow the dog to become a complete nightmare, and then dump in the for sale/ home wanted section at 10/12 months when he's "bitten a child".

A puppy will only turn into the dog you make it, and if you don't feel fully committed to putting the time in then find someone that can.

listen to what Hannah says! it really does work!

another thing if youve not got time to walk him at certain times get a dog walker!, lots of people will moan for even thinking it but even if its just a hour a day it will take the pressure off you for that hour and go a long way to socialising your dog as well!

get the kids involved training the dog as well! it will wear the kids and the dog out and make them feel better about having the dog around if they can tell it to sit, stay ect
