They made a commercial decision to start selling rifles with their own name on them a few years back. As a general comment, in principle they are pretty good and reasonably priced! I've never owned one, but know several people who do/have and I've shot a few. I was considering one a couple of years back but I just don't like the stocks, personal thing of course, and Howa don't make the stocks! Quote Link to post
oxo 449
I own a Howa 308 varmint s/s laminate, cracking piece of kit. They make guns for Weatherby not Remington, the Howa is a lot better than a similarly priced Remmy imo. Very accurate well made rifle, heavy though. Picked mine over a Tikka because the Tikka feels a bit flimsy and toylike to me. Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
Don't get a heavy barrel one, and then you will be fine. I have had 2 Howas. the first was in 223 with the laminate stock and was fantastic. The second was a 204 and I had grief with it, but, a new stock and a recrown, and a f*** load of different loads later, I did get it shooting - about 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards. Big fan of Howa, they shoot very well as a rule, and I personally do like the Hogue stock. it's flexible up front but it never seems to matter for some reason, but it is the right size for my hands, it's non slip, and the balance is half decent, even with a moderator. If you get a Wildcat mod, make sure it's the P8 COMPACT, the full size is a cow, and the little compact loses very little in terms of moderation and is MUCH better balanced. Howa is a Remington clone in so far as remington aftermarket stuff USUALLY works with them, certainly scope mounts. Where they beat Remington is smoothness of action - Remington can be a pain for loading single shot, and you get the odd jam. Not so Howa, smooth as silk. If you want to shoot it single shot, literally throw one in and close the bolt. They are a good buy The only BUT is Highland Outdoors, the importer. Who were crap. Now I know there was a miscommunication/lie told to me by the gunshop it came from, but Highland were crap about getting it resolved speedily. Same old UK problem - not enough size of company to get things going efficiently. However, chances are, your Howa will work and you won't need them, so go get one Quote Link to post
