I dont think they call them salukis, there all considered different, depending on the region they come from. Theres Caravan Hounds, CHIPPIPARAI, RAJAPALAYAM, Rampur Hound, Kanni and so on.

The CHIPPIPARAI are and interesting breed. They are raised mainly by tribesmen. The elder picks the parents and only the one best one from the litter is kept, the rest are culled.

 

The breed has allegedly thousands of years breeding in it, which I would imagine is a slight exaggeration, but they keep pedigree records and new owners are few and far between.
