jenksi87 3
right lads i dont want to start the old .177 Vs .22 debate, but what i would like to know is has anybody had any experience with .20 calibre air rifles? i have been reading up on them and it seems like the perfect calibre, a happy medium between .177 and .22. flatter trajectory than .22 but with more or less the same stopping power. are there only certain guns that use this calibre? is there much difference in the price of the gun? are the pellets dearer? harder to get hold of? any info would be much appreciated cheers jenks Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Over realistic air rifle ranges the only difference you'll notice will be on the micro-statistics - ie. bugger all. Trajectory and Stopping power are pointless considerations and not really relevant with airgun hunting IMO as there is so little in it over that range - accuracy is the priority. Sitck with a .177 or .22 and have a better choice of pellets and better chance of being able to sell the bloody thing when you get board of it Quote Link to post
wuzzy 0
yeh!! less choice in pellets sorry but i would,nt go for .20 Quote Link to post

SEAN3513 7
sub 12 ft/lbs...........i don't matter they always say........."its the best of both worlds" if so , thats what we all be using. pellets are harder to obtain and usually cost more. and very few guns are available in .20 , and if they are they usually cost more to. so................its basically a "white elephant " calibre imo. atb sean Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Ok. Most .20 pellets tend to be pretty much the same weight as an average .22 (12 to 15 grains), so 'cos of the smaller frontal area and (relativley) longer length of the pellet they have a better aerodynamic quality than .22 so they slow down less in flight and hold more energy down range. Fact. They do not fly as flat as .177 because the velocity is normaly closer to .22. You can get light .20 ammo (Beeman, H and N, same thing) but light ammo slows down too fast, so unless you're shooting at close range there's not much point. They do, however, fly slightly flatter than .22 as they tend not to slow down as quickly in flight but there's not much in it in a sub FAC airgun. Fact. Most gun shops don't tend stock much, if any, .20 as there aren't that many .20 guns out there, which can be a pain but if you look on-line there's loads out there and you're spoilt for choice. Tends to be less cash too, which is nice. Fact. But the whole point is, with the p**s poor amount of power our lovely leaders have given us to play with it's all about putting the shot exactly where you need it to go, caliber don't really matter, use whatever shoots best for you and your gun. FACT!! Cheers. Edit to say.... It's been said many times before that it's a compromise caliber. It's not, it's just not the same as the others. .25 anyone??
