A VISIT TO MY LOCAL VET.

Ok, took my jill ferret to another vet for a diagnosis to find out what the bloody hell she has.

The last vet told me it was the complete ferret food.

Anyhow, i took her out of the box and the vet stood back  , he put on some gloves and asked me what the problem was.

I expained how she has this rash in spots and showed him one patch wich was slightly bald. I also explained how she has started to sracth ect.

He poked at the rash, Hummed and howed, then went into a room and came back out with a treatment for ringworm.:blink: He also had 3 tablets in a test tube.

He expalined to me how to use the salution, which by the way, is called..... IMAVEROL.

I have to dab this on in the parts that have the rash and give her a 3rd of one of the tablets a day.

All i can say is, going to a vet over here, in the arse end of nowhere, here in Southern Ireland, is some experience. :11:

I was trying to get some info out of him and explain how puzzled i was about it being ring worm, as she has not come in contact with cats ect and he did not say much at all, just to use this as discribed. No skin scraping ect. To me it did not look like ring worm, but, who am i to know??

The visit cost me 35 Euro :icon_eek::cry::no:

Anyone else experinced ringworm in ferrets? Any pics by any chance on what it looks like? Id love to see them. :)

Prehaps she picked it up from some of the shot crows i fed them??

Cheers,

Frank.

I dont blame you for not having any confidence in you're vet !

its hard to find a vet thats up on ferrets and rather than telling you they dont know they'll just have a stab at something and charge you top dollar for it :realmad:

Hope you're ferret pulls through mate ;)

Frank; Check Google (Images, as well as normal) for Ringworm. I think you'll find it causes a circular bare patch, possibly with little lesions amongst it. But then, Alopecia, due to being under the weather and / or stressed by mites could do that too .....

Sent for that Thornit yet?

She seems to have a couple of small patches of what look like small crusty bits in a ring, but no hair loss.

2 on the neck and one on the lower back and the bald patch is between her shoulder blades, which does not seem as flakey as the other 3, but is the largest one.

i got ringworm on holiday last year got it on my back and shins ,freaked out when doc told me :icon_eek: . thought there was a giant worm or something in me... sounds just like what your ferrets got ,,mines was a round pale mark with flaking skin and itchy like feck ,,,,took a fair few visits to doc to shift it ...in the end it was anti fungal gear that shifted it ,,tried it myself as the doc was crap and his medicine was not working ,,,will try and look it out for you and get the name of it ,,all the best
