jclay91 12
I have only ever owned spring air rifles but have used a few pcp airifles, as i now earning abit more cash i am goin to upgrade but i am unsure which air rifle would be best, i have used bsa superten .22 which i enjoy using but then had a go with a friends aa s410 .177 and thought it was amazing, i have read many reviews on various gun...hw100, s410, daystate, excalibur The gun will be used for rats and pigeons in barns around farmyards, and also for rabbits woodpigeons rats corvids etc out in the field. Any Information on any good air rifles would be very much appreciated Please Help Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
How long is a piece of string! You can get a cracking, very powerfull and accurate springer for around £150 second hand. If you want a PCP then everyone has their own personal preference. I personally went for an s410, purely because I liked the feel of it and prefered it to the hw100. In addition it was cheaper than the hw100. I also went for .22 rather than .177. Again, just a personal preference. For around £350->£400 you can get a cracking s410 - including the scope & silencer. Dont forget on top of that price you have to budget £120 for a decent stirrup pump. Mine has seen no end of use on rabbits, pigeons, magpies, plus is very accurate for just back yard target plinking. Id suggest going around a few gun shops or clubs and trying a few different guns out to see what you like the look of. Dont rush into buying the 1st one you see, shop around as prices can vary. Plus very often shops try and sell you the one they want you to have, rather than the one you actually want. Quote Link to post
reggaeman 1
its not about how good the gun looks fella. its how comfartable you are with it and how well you shoot it please don't take it as critiscsm but anyone on here will tell you the same i've just bought myself a pcp but before i got it i shot a simple smk springer in 177 and i have witnesses to prove that it did the job just as well. i agree with jackinbox99 that you should try several shops or clubs to get the feel of them before buying one. i must say i do love my bsa ultra 177 cos its short, light, easy to pump up and very very accurate. i also enjoy shooting my mate's daystate harrier but me being vc (vertically challenged) i find it longer and heavier than mine but again a great rifle and very accurate. atb in your search fella Quote Link to post
JackWard 0
I have a BSA ultra multishot .22, brilliant light, short stock on them Quote Link to post
77 si 21
I dont think that you will go wrong with any of the guns you have mensiond in your post. It all depends on how much you want to spend and whether you want a new gun or not.Personally I like the Daystate huntsman and the S410 the most but you would probably need a charging kit aswell as they only fire full power shots in between fills Quote Link to post
tdesnos 6
.177 for fur .22 for feather as the saying goes. Only, you'll be shooting both, so why not go for the compromise and get the .20? You can get the Theoben Rapid S type, which has the magazine function, a detachable 'buddy bottle' for your air supply so you can keep a few in the car. If you upgrade to an F.A.C one day, it's easily increased in power. It's pricey, but then so is the Daystate. All of the current Daystate range are noteworthy too. Basically, if you've decided to splash out on a rifle, spend as much as you can afford and you wont regret it. A rifle isn't a 'sensible' purchase from a financial point of view, so don't try and economize on the purchase, otherwise you'll end up with something below what you will be capable of affording and you'll remember this every time you look at it! I know from experience! I bought the S400 i went for the Walnut stock and he Simmons WTC Classic 3.5-10x50 scope (the scope i'd always wanted) and haven't regretted it ever. It looks stunning! And every time i see someone with a beech stock i'm quietly smug! Quote Link to post
farrier1 0
i own a hw100 in .22 and i cant fault it in any way i use it for ratting, rabbiting and pigeons, crows always accurate plenty of shots from 1 charge only downside is its a bit heavy but thats they way i like my guns and with a sling fitted its no bother. even went out at 5.30am today and came back with 6 rabbits and 2 pigeons. hope this helps Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
177 all the way in standard form. 22 in fac. in standard form i think 22 is to loopy. where as 177 is nice and flat. also as long as you hit the head 177 is more then you need up to 40 yards at anything rabbit, rat, pigeon, crows Quote Link to post

Wouldnt mind knowing where you got your s410 with scope & silencer for £350 to £400 because i havnt seen a deal like that know where. I paid £485 for the s410 & £ for my hawke nite-eye 3-9x50 R-G IR, £39 for the logan ccfc silencer and i wouldnt buy a stirrup pump for £120 when i could buy a 3lt charging bottle for £139 deliverd. If you look on ebay youl get a 15lt bottle for £130ish. I wouldnt buy a gun just because i liked the look of it that the first big mistake you'l make and if you have a look around and read lots of reveiws youl get a reasonable idea of whats what. When you'v decided what your looking for goto your nearest gun dealer and see if he has what your looking for if he has the one you want but its more expencive ask him if he'l do a price match, they usually do, buisness is buisness and if it goes faulty you might not have far to travel to get it sorted out.
