hunter16 0
just want to know would a metal detector work as i almost lost my ferret on her first day out..... want to try all the options before forking out a big wad for a ferret finer.... still broke from a lithium dry cell and striker Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
What if you dig down 4 foot to a coin lol?! you would still need a some kind of collar with metal. Just get a finder or dont, you will waste more money fecking about trying to come up with something that wont work than you would just buying a ferret finder. plus you'd look abit of a tit lol. cant imagine metal detectors are that cheap are they? atb, HJ Quote Link to post
hunter16 0
ahm i borrowed one from the plowing championships...... stall owner il bring it back next year honest na just joking but there alot cheaper than a mk3 and 3 collars Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Only if your ferret has a hip replacement and only if your prepared to dig up every bit of metal to find your ferret, dig deep Quote Link to post
shepp 2,285
Yes mate imagine if you spent an hour digging six feet down and all you came across was a flippin pile of priceless Roman coins. You'd be well gutted! Quote Link to post
The one 8,511
Aye they would beep at everything metal in the soil how would you know which was your ferret ?? Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
Even the best metal detector..one costing many hundreds of pounds ....will only detect to a depth of just over a foot deep....so if the ferret was at any depth the detector would prove useless Rolfe. Quote Link to post
John-B 4
would work well on our land as it's 99% old tin mines haha dig deep and get a ferret locator Quote Link to post
Quixote 9
what a stupid question? get your doller out and buy a locater and collar and then your set up propley!! No it wasn't.............why give the guy a hard time for wanting to learn? Let's hear your views on the pro's & cons of them? Personally, I tend to find that locators have their good & bad points. I have a pair of Deben Mk2's (one still in the original box!) but I can't remember the last time I used them. Choose your buries carefully, don't treat your ferts as expendable tools, & you'll find that common sense & a bit of patience will see you right But! If you're the type of bloke who couldn't care less about his ferts, & chucks them down any old hole for the odd chance of a rabbit, then you definately need a finder, & deserve each & every sweaty moment you spend with a spade in your hand while the savvy ones are enjoying a pint that you can't afford 'cos all your money went on the shiny new finder Quote Link to post

Choose your buries carefully, don't treat your ferts as expendable tools, & you'll find that common sense & a bit of patience will see you right I have found that people who don't use ferret finders don't actually do a great deal of ferreting, yes people survived before there were ferret finders, but how long are you supposed to hang about waiting for ferrets to come out when they might only be a spade deep, never mind leaving dead rabbits underground to rot away. I think we can substitute the word "Savvy" for "Part-time" Quote Link to post
hunter16 0
after all this id like to thank you all and i think ill get the finder....... only going to cost about €200 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
I have found that people who don't use ferret finders don't actually do a great deal of ferreting.... One word, bollocks. However I can't be arsed going over the same shite again, I don't understand the whole 'Lets hang someone because they don't use a locator' thing that goes on on this site, It's one of the reasons I don't frequent the ferreting section as much these days. It doesn't happen on other sites, & I'd rather discuss ferreting else where TBH. Quote Link to post
