irishbob666 0
im new to working ferrets and want to no is a ferret find a must have? how long would i expect to be hanging around weighting on them coming back out ? Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
Ive done it with and without finders but I wouldnt go without one now, they just make things so much easier and quicker. If most of the burys you work are small and open i.e. middle if fields ect then you could probably get away without one although you wont be as succesful as you cant get the rabbits killed below. If your doing hedges, woodland, bramble patches ect then I would never do these without a finder. Its not just handy for digging, if your working big sets its re assuring to be able to keep checking to make sure none have slipped out and away. Either way I would get one, but there are times when you can get away without. times could be anything from 10 mins to 2 hours or more but adverage about 30 mins? atb, hj Quote Link to post
niall_b73 41
i to am like you, pretty new to the ferreting scene. i have only been out the once, last sunday and thankfully all went well. but with regards to the ferret finder, i would say a big yes. if you think anything of your workers you would think heavily about investing in one. well that is my 2 cents anyway. good luck with the ferreting niall_b73 Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
I used to use the old "Line ferret" when my old jill used to lay up...... Just to explain in case anyone doesnt know, as far as I know most people used the female ferret to do the work, but in the case of a "lie up" a collar was fitted to a male ferret along with a section of string and he was put down the hole to chase/locate the female No fear of that nowadays! stealthy1 3,964
Last year one of my jills became stuck in a stopend, what must have happend was, she chased a rabbit down a stopend which put its arse up, another rabbit ran up to her so she killed that one, then she returned to the first rabbit which at the time of its death was trying to climb over the first one she killed, the locator showed her running the same two feet of tunnel, so a dig was in order, when dug to, both rabbits were on top of each other and my jill was stuck behind them, although she would'nt have starved, at worst she may have suffocated, or been down in the tube a while, but like I said, I just dug her out Quote Link to post
