steviemann 5
My grandfather always had an old terrier. Never heard him talk about earth work though. Think he only had them to bush for the pot. Never had a gun but fed the family on what his trusty catapault provided. Quote Link to post

CO CHISE 330
well im self taught but i think my interest in fieldsports must of come from my grandfather as no one else in the family is into it, with my grandfather been an old paddy and the story's he told me about what he got up to in Ireland in his younger days before he came over here was very interesting, so as you do my first thing was a ferret then from there onto bigger things, or it could of also been from an old ancestor that did 6mth in shovel in 1850 for a poaching offense that my brother found out last year doing the family tree if this hasnt got anything to do with the topic then sorry Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,879
my father was an avid anti.he was a very gentle person, but my grandfather was a fanatical hunting man so i reckon it skipped a generation.I started with a ferret and travelled on to greater things.....or maybe not that great. It depends on how you look at things, lol Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
i don't do much digging at the moment but love the sport( hunting, fishing).the family on my nans side are an old line of poachers in telford, they would feed the extended family with game after the war and up untill 15-20 years ago.my dad grew up with it from his dad and uncles and i guess it has got me too( my son is mad for it as well). dogs, hunting and fishing are imo hereditry. workerxworker maybe?
