coldweld 65
Sounds like you have never had a working dog before, So my advice is to get a black lab from working stock . Easy to train and have a steady pace, Watch out for chewing when left alone . P.S i have had 2 ESS and 2 cockers i know the trouble they cause so that is why i advised a lab , now have a ESS and a border terrier[i also used to have lots of HAIR !] Edited September 24, 2009 by coldweld Quote Link to post

rickyspringer 15
I would go springer, but like someone has mentioned if its your forst dog a lab might be a good choice, go with what you like and be enthusiastic and you will definitely get some progress!! Quote Link to post
welshboy454 3
i want to buy a dog for rough shooting i do not no what to but can you help Rough shooting is a wide spectrum. Can you describe what you want your dog to do -mostly eg hunting up game/fur/vermin for you or retrieving or both. Also the type of ground you will be shooting on - eg thick heavy cover, hedgerows upland moors as this will influence the best type of dog . Quote Link to post

Dave C 63
All the breeds mentioned will do a good job for you, so just go for the type you like best, not what others like. You will bond better with it if you get your preferred breed. Just my thoughts. Dave. Quote Link to post
