Ferrets escaped.

Came home yesterday evening to find that my Poley and my new Jill weren't in their shed.

The other Hob was still in there oddly enough. I can't see how they could've escaped though, I reckon they were let out.

Luckily, I found the Poley straight away, I think he knows the sound of my car and also the sound of the food bag when I rattle it.

The new Jill was nowhere to be seen and it was getting dark and my torch was broke, so I just put a spare cage out on the grass and put some food in it. Came down this morning and nothing there, food uneaten.

I'm wondering what chance she'll have of surviving out there, we're surrounded by open farmland on one side and woods on the other.

There's a lot of badger and fox about and I could hear at least 3 different owls directly outside the house last night. Fingers crossed I reckon, going to have a good search when I get home tonight, don't think there's much else I can do, unless anyone else has any wise ideas. :(

Ferrets are funny things, one minute you think you'll never see them again, and then the next day they're on your lawn eating next doors cat :) , they have been know to take a couple of weeks to return, so dont give up hope just yet, I have a mesh door on my shed where my cages are kept, learnt my lesson when I found my shepherd playing with one of my jills in the garden :D

Keep chucking the food out for her, and chances are you'll get her back :)

Yep, there isn't much for her to eat in the immediate area unless it's food I put out, problem is I'll be attracting the badgers and foxes too.

They'll soon p**soff when you get your jill back :D

Might be worth trying this but its upto you and that is by putting a few live catch (rat/squirrel) traps out with some meat or rabbit in around the area,if it gets hungry it might go in them!

if your anyone near by has chickens start there. i lost two of mine and they turned up in the chicken run on the farm behind us !!

when i was a child my uncle lost his hob and it turned up on a farm five miles away, three weeks later he only got it back because they rang the local vets to say they had found one and he had reported it missing.

Well, it's good news and bad.

Got her back last night, she ended up in the neighbour's kitchen attacking unshod feet.

Put her back in the shed with a nice big slab of meat - she was quite hungry.

Came down this morning and it appears that the shed has a leak, she's gone again!

I'm pretty confident I'll get her back tonight, I'll just sit outside around half 6 'till it gets dark and then I'll plug any holes I find in the shed.

Bloody Houdini!

if you get her back , out her straight back in the cage & watch where she escapes from then you can sort the cage
