arveyboy 0
some of you may know that i have a closed FAC with a .17hmr and a .243 but with a mentoring condition attached to the .243. so now that i have had the .243 for about 5 months now i rang up my constabulary and asked whether it would be possible to get the condition removed. they told me to send it in and they will review the situation and send me my certificate back again. the only problem is with this postal strike i dont want my certificate getting lost in transit and i'd preferably like to get it done quickly so i can get out with the rifle before i go off to uni. what im wondering then is, would it be possible for me to take the certificate directly to the police hq and have them review it then print me off another certificate? also, while im there i was going to ask to have my certificate opened up as i have a couple of mates with fox problems due to noone shooting their ground and my feo said that after roughly a year he will be able to have my certificate opened up. ive had the certificate since december 08 so not quite a year. views appreciated Quote Link to post
dixyhmr 62
Youl be able to take it to the licensing department and hand it in no problem. I doubt they would do it there and then for you though. Get your mentor to write a quick letter to hand in with the certificate explaing how he feels you no longer need to be mentored. As for getting it opened up, it depends totally on the views of your licensing manager, ( and what mood they are in at the time probably ) Quote Link to post

I was always under the impression it was for your mentor to write in to the firearms licensing department and state that you have reached a given level and that in his/her opinion you are now ready to go it alone. I am mentoring a chap now and for the last seven months he has point blank refused to do any training, take on board any safety aspects of the sporting rifle and has some major issues with accurate shooting. If the licensing department phoned me up to ask my opinion about removing his mentoring condition, I am sure you can guess my response but never the less that's how the FEO explained the system to me. jamie g 17
one thing i would point out is dont just tell explan the rounds you have used in the 243 have all been shooting at what its granted for. not just at range and so on. i told my flo that i well i hadnt used as much as he would have liked me to. i said that all the rounds i had fired was on fox and vermin as it says on my ticket. 300 rounds for that is alot better then 1000's of rounds at targets ! sully5328 0
i dont know much about the mentoring bit. However i have held my FAC for .22lr for less than 12months. I got references of the landowners i shoot for and supplied further supporting evidence of my experience with firearms. I also contacted the NGO who supported my application. New FAC came in post today with open condition. Only took 2 weeks aswell. Thanks NGO and the cops. I suggest you try the same route. Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
i spoke about this with my fao only the other day and was told " put some rounds through it safely for a few months and then write to us and ask for it to be removed" i guess its different for each district? the safer the better is say. not a good system in the uk, i had to do a nine month course with written, practical and oral exam to gain a hunting licence in germany( and it cost a bomb!!) it is a similar course for fishermen by the way!! don't worry i'm sure the government is working towards a similar ball ache for the uk atb Quote Link to post
