mubz2cool 4
as above. what do you all prefer in a stalking/foxing rifle.. wood or synthetic. Quote Link to post
cunninghamb 2
As yet I do not have a rifle or FAC for that matter, but for my first rifle I'm going for a synthetic/stainless rifle simply because they are more 'rugged' and IMO look good Quote Link to post
Fishslayer 10
I like the utility of synthetic and the beauty of wood. Laminates are a sturdy and attractive intermediate. Cheers, Mark Quote Link to post
arveyboy 0
both my rifles are synthetic. i find them far more practical, slightly lighter and considering i use them in the field i wouldnt want a wood stock which could easily scratch and de-value. i think that as an everyday rifle most people would generally agree that synthetic is more practical. however, if i could afford to have a beautifully made wooden stocked rifle that was used for the very occassional memorable stalk then i would. personal preference as ever Quote Link to post

dixyhmr 62
Synthetic here.... I like wood but synthetic stocks arent affected as much by conditions and are easier to look after and generally take more abuse. Failing that Id go for a laminate wood stock as these again are more sturdy and hard wearing than normal beech or walnut. At the end of the day though youl shoot better with a rifle that looks and feels right to you, so go with your gut feeling after picking up a few. Quote Link to post

The one 8,457
All mine are wood being honest its not a thing ive thought about Quote Link to post
TOP PREDATOR 0
love the look and feel of wood, however the "durability", light weight, and lack of expansion / contraction of synthetic is nice on a accurized field rifle. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
I'll take Laminate where possible, big fan. Quote Link to post
hunter1 63
my rifles are SYNTHETIC and take the abuse better then what wood would at night lamping. Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
IMO I would go for the grade 5 wood and the glossy blued metal every time...... like you get on the top end Sauer rifles... however as most of us are not made of money, I yould go for the wood/blued option or the synthetic/blued option just because they look better, plus with synthetic stocks you can take the action out of the stock, clean and oil it and put it back in, torquing the screws up the same as when you took it out and it will still hold it's zero Latest interest is the CZ550 American in blued/kevlar stock config.....HERE Quote Link to post
ratattack 111
Wood for me, it looks and feels much nicer, removes the toy look you get with plastic! Quote Link to post
sully5328 0
Wood does look good, but for practicality synthetic does for me. Quote Link to post
