Guest twylite
What do you prefer and why? quickset when im on my own and traditional when im out with my son [got to teach them the old way before the new]. Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
i find the quickset way too heavy. Most drops i do require 150+ yards of net. I have 115 yards in my basket and is heavy as FECK. Even when ferreting hedgerows most places i do i still require about 150 yards or more. Most places i need the longnets for ferreting arent a kick of the arse off the road side but i cant justify having 200 yards of quickset and 200 yards of traditional. I find that traditional nets hold the rabbits better, i know a few people who claim the same. Once i get a rabbit or two in the end sections of quicksets, the lines become slack Ever tried splicing a broken line on a quickset? Ever tried weaving a quickset through a hedgerow? from now on, its traditional for me Quote Link to post

MikeTheDog 153
How can the quick-set be heavier?...Same amount of wands and net!....Basket doesn't way feck all! You could put an anchor line and end pin on each end to stop the line at the end sagging. Or just push the wands in further. I've never had to splice/tie top/bottom lines but I would imagine it should be easy. What you trying to catch?...Fecking carthorse :11: Each to their own as has been said many a time Quote Link to post
Guest The Big Fish
I agree Mike, you still have to carry the same amount of stuff about. Dunno what all the fuss is about, i carry 150 yards of quickset in EACH basket Rabbithunter, you should eat more then you will grow into a big strong lad :11: Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,070
rabbithunter get yourself down the gym , to heavy :11: for splitting sections of hedgrow usestop or gate nets Quote Link to post
Guest simonw
right then, as for preferance whatever siuts you but you have made some brash statements their RH. how can 200 yards of nylon on a traditional and 200 on a quickset weigh more? how can 2 yards catch better on a traditional than 2 yards on a quickset????? and how when dropping 500 or 600 yards would you want to piss about to and fro???? and when a rabit bites through the top or bottom line on a traditional, do you only lose five yards or the whole net???? and as for ferreting nothing is as versatile as a good promaster system from Magnums, poles, grommets and planty of bagging. some nets are 3 yards to one down to a minimum of 2 to 1, mind you, must bedoing something wrong like the rest of the lads who have replied whatever floats your boat RH keep it real Quote Link to post
woodga 170
:11: :11: rabbit hunter thats you told but will you listen thats the question  GOOD HUNTUING ALL WOODGA  Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
each to his own, but from now on its traditional for me. More skill involved, so feel as if your achieving more. Anybody can run out quickset nets and pull em back in. But how many can say they can work with traditional nets? I was shown how to use traditional nets by who i consider to be an expert, and this weekend i may be shown a few more tips & tricks from another expert As for the weight, with quickset, all the weight is on the shoulder, whereas with traditional its spread out.It maybe the same weight but it certainly holds better. Them basket's are clumsy things aswell, some of my drops i have to get through tight spaces, and these drops, with quickset nets i havent accounted for as many as i have with traditional. And woodga, you know as well as I, that I take some getting through to :11: :11: :11: Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
But how many can say they can work with traditional nets? Me.. :11: ...My first longnet was traditional as was mysecond, made by myself ...Now prefer the quickset because it is easier and less hassle .. Ditchnets/gatenets/stopnets/pokenets sort out the short stretch through a hedge .... But each to their own Quote Link to post
The Ferret Tamer 1
Having just got my first quickset sytem (two 50yds) a few weeks back i can honestly say i aint going back to a traditional system (which i have used for 30yrs plus). Only used it a few times but it is a lot easier for us disabled old buggers (i speak only for myself the other disabled old buggers can post their own replies)LOL Regards FT  Quote Link to post
