ROB.BOB 21
would anybody care to explain them for me?
Clover 0
would anybody care to explain them for me? Short and simplistic answer - the panel of vets at the British Veterinary Association look at the xray plates of the dog's hips and award one point for every fault. A score is awarded for each hip, so a perfect set of hips would score 0:0 and a set of hips with every possible fault would score 53:53. So the lower the score the better. Dawn B 212
Yes as Clover says. Dependant on the size and breed of dog, "average" breed mean scores are stated. For example, I think for a Labrador its 16, thats 16 with both hips added together, e.g 8:8 or 10:6 etc...
ROB.BOB 21
so is a dog with a score of 3/3 better than one with 3/
carrieann 0
I also have giant breeds and hip scoring is totally unreliable, as the dog is under anesthetic so there is some doubt on hip scoring, i dont really pay much attention to it, as long as my dogs have a strong back end and not walking like a crab or whatever, the dog below got good hips Edited September 21, 2009 by carrieann
jac 12
yes. i always look for a dog with 10 of under for each leg. so a dog with no more then 20 in all. but you have to look at the breed average as it can differ from breed to breed Edited September 21, 2009 by jac
ROB.BOB 21
so if it says 3/3 that is for one leg? so would 3/6 mean there were more things that could go wrong with that hip??
jac 12
3/3 or 3/6 is excellent for a hip score. you have nothing to worry about and a dog with this score would be good for breeding with a dog of similar score. this is a very healthy hip score for any breed. farlap 19
so if it says 3/3 that is for one leg? so would 3/6 mean there were more things that could go wrong with that hip?? no if it says 3/3 then that is 3 for left leg and 3 for right leg.
