top gun 0
Well chaps I'm taking the plunge from the air rifle to the shotgun.. Been having a couple of lessons at a clay ground, sent my application off last friday, got cabinet bolted to wall yesterday, FAO phoned this morning to say he's comming Monday.. Now I think I've got everything covered when he starts asking me questions apart from 1 thing. Where am I going to store the cartridges ? Am I ok to store them with the gun in the cabinet ? adamthomas64 1
yes mate thats fine, with a shotgun you can store the ammo where ever you like, its when you move up to a firearms certificate and are storing rifle ammo that you have to have a cabinet with a top locking compartment, or a seperate ammo safe which ever you prefere, but with a shotgun your fine mate. all the best with the application. Murph 30
Adamthomas is spot on, there are no real restrictions on how/where you store your ammo but they're not keen if you do something daft like leave in in the porch or on a windowsill on show, just keep it in a commonsense place.. cyclonebri1 8
And that really is the makings of a mockery Which is more deadly a single bullet or an once of shot? Ask any soldier which they'd prefer at 5 to 10 yds. Seriously, and I was being back there, there are some real issues with FAC/SC ammo storage. Quote Link to post

Blacksheep 6
By the way , safe was only £30 from homebase so not too expensive , (but as people said its not a legal requirement) Quote Link to post

"tea or coffee and do you take sugar" thats the key mate lol worked for me.. best of luck.. Edited September 18, 2009 by jazz_11 Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
yes mate and a chocolate digestive( mc vities not the cheap ones!!!) should get you off on the right foot. i also think shotgun carts should be locked up. who has not heard of young lads messing in the garage with ammo and a nail........ not a legal requirement, but good practice i think. atb with the fao. top gun 0
FAO came this morning and went through my application and everything went well and told me to expect the certfiacate through in 4 weeks. Result What he did say though, is that I should get a seperate safe to keep my cartridges in rather than keep them locked up with the gun in case I did get broken into and even though its not a legal requirement to it would be sensible because I have 2 young children aswell..Which I total agree and will be getting one before I do start keeping any cartridges at home.. Good one, makes sense with kids, or without. Best of luck. Quote Link to post
