your dogs first big catch

Hi all.

 

what was your dogs first big catch? what did you enter your dog onto first?

 

i am only asking the question as i have a 16month old beddy/grey which has yet only been running on rabbits until the other night when she give a good run on 2 charlie until she lost it where before she would run on them and back off.but the other night she looked like she wanted to catch it. what would you say the best big catch for the dogs first.

iv just got my dog going a few weeks ago properly on big stuff and i got him to run it with another dog just shows them the ropes then gradually make them do it on their own best way i think. atb getting him going

Tbh pal i havent seen your dog, the build the temperment so i wouldnt no, but the bitch i know is about 23 tts, quite big built, she tackles charlies by herself and kills them, but shes very experiencd now shes 7 years old, so it mite be best trying her with a older experienced dog.

il be honest mate i didnt try mine it just had some runs on rabbits. i just waited till i could run it with another dog. thats if you know someone with one if not ul have to try it on its own

I've seen beddy/whippets more than capable of taking fox before the ban, but the the fitter they were the better. It's all very well catching the fox, but it's no good if the dog is fecked by the time it caches hold and has to deal with it.

i do go out with a other dogs but they are in the same situation. one is younger which is abit more aggressive never caught big stuff yet but very keen. my bitch will show her aggressiveness to other dogs if she dont like something. just have to keep trying

hi beddi/grey i know plenty of dogs that have self entered just take it slow no point rushing with the ones that bite back you got plenty of good seasons ahead of you all the best

never rush them mate let them find there own feet./ as many have said and from my own knowledge beddy crosses are game as f**k... let the dog go at its own pace 1 minute they wont want to know then something will trigger and away ya go atb with the dog

My beddy x whippet is so switched on when on the lamp, the other night myself and Darrall (the invisible scarecrow) on here went down to his permission for a look around. He had some serious long runs (300m +) and didn't manage to get anything as they all evaded into hedgerows etc..

 

Well, on one of the last runs he went for the rabbit and it turned him by a hedgerow, then all of a sudden there were about 4 Muntjacks sprinting down the field. He took one look and decided the rabbit wasn't for him and tried to pull a deer down

 

I called him off and fair play he stopped, but he was proper trying to take this deer down.
