  • 2 weeks later...

my dog havent long caught his dew claw runnin through thick grass, we cleaned it had pliers an cut the worse off as it was hangin an catches on stuff, bath it in salt water 2x-3x per day and the dog wil lick it clean too, an its been great never had a problem with it since.

But i know of one of the boys said his dog caught his dew claw an he left it and in the end it fell off and its never come back to this day :)

Dew claws sure are a bane to the hard working lurcher. I have encountered a great many injuries to these irritating little sods over the years, but i would still never get the dog operated on to remove them, i have seen what happens when a vet makes a balls up of it. And, it wasnt a pretty sight!

Depends the vet some vets charge funny money for this type of thing. My plas dog is fine now nails more or less the way it was before no problems since. My wee bitch is forever snapping hers and same treatment pan of cold water and a pair of pliers. My dad done this for years with his greys and lurchers and never had any problems as long as you keep the area clean it will heal fine
