you say your new to the sport there aint no sport in shooting any tom dick or harry can do it, its just a lazy way to hunt but with no buz like you get with a lurcher on the arse end of the fox even if it gets away. but with rifles no chance every one dead. how the fcuk thats is a sport i'll never no

jesus not you again. stick to the fecking lurcher section and stop making ridiculous comments. i could say that you do feck all to your sport but i dont. plus its not legal to dispatch fox with a dog :angry::angry:

anyway mate i use a .17hmr for rabbits, crows pigeons etc and a .243 for fox and deer. although yet to get my first blood with that.

whats your quarry mate? easier to know you need to get

Krisg is asking for advice on shooting which is both legal and sporting.

I'm afraid you are not only uncouth but also living in the past.........as you well know your chosen sport is illegal, sower grapes perhaps.

:clapper:

Jog on dickhead, why bother posting on this section? Lurchers on foxes is now illegal, rifle shooting is sport as well, dogs are not the only sport you know (and yes I have got a working lurcher).

In answer to the question asked:

.243 for foxes-gives you versatility for deer if you want to get into that later, spend as much as you can on the scope.

.22 for rabbits-cheap rounds and cheap setup, deadly on rabbits (and hares fence hopper).

if you did get .243 granted you would have restrictions on it - probably not allowing you to use on your own....its a real pain in the arse mate! going for the .22LR at first as previously said is a good starter.

when i first applied for my licence i got .308 approved but it has to be used woith an "experienced centr fire user" other wise known as anyone with an open FAC.

ps: who is this monkeys banging on about lurchers? f*ck off mate, most of us have seen and done work with lurchers......i love dogs and especially lurchers, but what the f*ck are you going on about? foxes etc, again most us have either seen it, done it but it is illiegal, there are blatently police ad antis watching this site why dont you just give them more fuel for the fire? tw*t!

pps: i know faamer who shot 2 lurchers last week for illegal poaching.......crack on my friend!

Evolcan is right. You really need two guns. 22lr is the calibre of choice for rabbits out to <100yds. You probably won't get a condition to shoot fox with a 22rimfire. You can kill Charlie with a 22lr at close range but you need a centrefire to be sure of a clean kill. Your best bet is to apply for 22lr for rabbits to start and then go for a centrefire for fox after a year or so. CZ make the best value 22 rimmies for field use. Take a look at Guntrader for prices. Ignore dickheads.

what about a .22 magnium? spoke to my local, and he said that this would reali be a perfect rifle for both rabbits up to 150yrs+ and foxes up to 90 yrds? what is the difference between a 22lr and a 22 mag? i dont even no what thet stand for?

You will find ammo is more expensive and that the crack from a magnum will make it too loud to shoot big bags of rabbits. I got a centrefire (.22-250, didn't want a rimfire at the time) on my 1st application with no mentoring conditions on it, it all depends what you feo is like, just apply and see.

22 Mag is the name the Americans give to the 22 Winchester Rimfire Magnum, WMR. 22lr is long rifle. Both fire bullets of similar weight but the WMR is a helluva lot faster. I agree with your dealer but WMR has never taken off in this country. CCI will soon be importing a new round wirh 30gr fragmenting bullet which should be the dog's dodgy bits though you'll have to go for head shots on rabbits.

once again thanks for your help you lot certianly no your stuff. so im leaning more now to a .22WMR so what sort of rifle should i be looking at £300 - £500 is my price range. lot of good things seem to be said about cz and every1 seems to have one!!

is a 3x12 scope going to be able to do the business or will i need more?

hi mate i have had a .17hmr since december last year and then in february/march this year i applied for a .243 for fox and deer and got it with a mentoring condition. bearing in mind i am only 18 i wouldnt rule out getting a centrefire rifle. there are a few die-hard .22wmr fans on here but not many and its largely agreed its a dying calibre. i'd imagine prices for ammo are expensive.

have a good think about it though mate. if you need any help just ask. but not me because i know feck all :tongue2:
