slip lead?

Recommended Posts

What slip lead to you guys use? I started just using a bit of rope through the collar loop, then someone told me this idea so that I did not have to run my dog with a collar (cant really explain the picture sort of shows it) is it worth getting a proper slip. I’m quite happy with the rope slip but are the proper slips much better? This slip is not the smoothest of actions.

My dogs always have collars on. Use a bit of nylon webbing with a loop tied in for your hand.

Even when out walking the dog during the day, collar is on - then if somethign pops up in the distance, the dog can be grabbed quick - ever tried grabbing a collarless dog that wants to be away?

On the other hand when my labrador is with me, she never has a collar, for the simple reason it would be too easy to snag when she ratches in the bushes, etc.

i had one of those leather slips. you had to reach down near the collar to release it. very awkward and if the dog pulled hard enough then it always came open when you didnt want it to! i use a belt now with the buckle cut off,, very good!! ps,, there has been running dogs around her house for 30 years or maybe more and never have i seen an accident due to the dog wearing a collar,, just make sure its tight.

I prefer the proper slips mate.

i would never run my dogs with collars on !

Have to agree with you there mate ive had the same slip lead for the last 15 years. It has never let me down and apart from having to replace the handle part of it everything is 100%. IMHO running a dog with a collar is dangerous especially if running through woodland . But thats just my opinion!

Collars on for me , for the reasons Mik said . Mine have been through the thickest cover afther stuff hundreds of times an allways been fine . All i use for a slip is a old cut down leather lead .

i like slips and colar slips i dont mind running a dog with a colar on as for ive never had no problems with it , i do like the toggle slip but they cost a few quid and i always loose the fuckers ! ide rather loose 2 quid than 20 quid so i always go for a nylon lead or a bit of rope through the colar , i do like a proper lead if ime taking my dog a walk in public though ! what would the dangers of running a dog with a colar on be ? ........
