stormyboy 1,352
i never said it either ,i was just pointing out that the dog would have to be on the go for 3or4 hours ,just trot a dog behind a car and see how long it will last .never mind how fit it was The Stamina card has been brought up a few times in this topic How long would a Lab or a spaniel be on the go for on a grouse moor beating? or a collie working on the dales or fells? The collie that could nt put in a full day EVERY day would nt be around that long. Y.I.S Leeview lee,i work my dog loose ,and it is a hard thing for it to keep up the same pace for 3 or 4 hours ,they just cant do it .like i said ,if it could be done ,it would be done ,and not just on the odd occasion , it MIGHT have been done in the past ,or they could be just stories to sell the pups from such a dog ,who knows ,but one thing fore sure ,it has not hapend in a very long time ,and if 1 dog was capable then surly quite a few others would be this day and age ,after all things have improved a great deal .like some on here has said ,they can get 40 or 50 ,mabe 60 ,then their dogs have had enough . I did say that they walked down the beam into the wind not going flat out, that pace would be easier to maintain over a longer period Y.I.S Leeview Easier to maintain fair enough. even if more squatters than runs, they would need to walk out catch and retrieve pretty sharpish dont you agree? karl_20 0
think i need to go out round some of these places where people say they have had 100 in a night, if i go out round here on the lamp i wudnt see 100 rabbits in a night never mind catch 100 round here were not hittin 10 runs a night, just my opinion but i dont think theres a dog that cud hack 100 rabbits in a night, even if it was to catch every run the dog wud be f**ked, cheers karl Quote Link to post
toughguy 0
Chipper doesnt think any lurcher past or present could do 100 in a nights session. His best in a night was 73 and three hares and that was two dogs.He said some of the lurchers he has seen and owned were as good as they come and they werent cabable of it. He would like anyone who has done it to tell all to EDRD. atb andri It is possible....I've done it on two different ocassions with the same bitch. It was back in the early 1980s in County Mayo.It was in a place called Foxford and on the first time the bitch caught 101 and on the second, a fortnight later, she caught 108. There were a number of witnesses to this and quite a few lads from Wales were present at the time. I must admit that at least 50% would have been squatters and the most difficult part was getting them all back to the road for collection. Quote Link to post

stormyboy 1,352
over how many hours would this be ? Probably 7 or 8-during a nights sleep. I had a dream like that once. Quote Link to post
pink head 28
I would like to see it done,.. sounds like s........t to mei no a man from durham who has had 120 odd rabbits in 1 nights lampin a wasnt ther but av seen the pics it was with a collie whippet sadly dog got stolen out his pen probably because the word got round that it cought that many in 1 night should of kept it quiet. i bet every c""t is up there lamping 2 Quote Link to post
pink head 28
just work out the fastest time every rabbit could be caught ,then add the retrieve time of each rabbit ,then include time for the dog to recover after each run ,and see how long it would take to catch 100 rabbits ,and how long the dog would have to run for .then see if it is possible , Picture the scene; Dark December'96 night wind howling in their faces, forestry at their backs the rabbits feeding well out 2 lads set of lamping these pastures, they've known about this situation for a long time just waiting for the conditions to be in there favour, the colliex's were picking the rabbits up and retrieving them live to hand, many of them were squatting out in the field as there refuge was "blocked by these 2 lampers" with their backs to the forestry, the bitches were not flying out they just made there way down the side of the beam and onto these squatters from their squat some did run and were caught, the rabbits mounted up and were left to be collected later, they carried on in this mode for 5hours eventually running out of forestry or else they would of carried on, they'd walked 7miles along this forestry that night and caught 186 rabbits between them, they did nt match each other rabbit for rabbit and one did take over the ton. The 2 lads were mid 20's back then keen as hell dedicated and focussed there dogs equally good at their job as you would expect from them Their names Kevin Walker+Simon Dixon the land was/still is around Annan, there are members on here who can verify this as being accurate and the truth Y.I.S Leeview dogs carried the rabbits 2 Quote Link to post

toughguy 0
over how many hours would this be ? I couldnt say for definite Karl as it was a long time back, but I guess over a 3 to 4 hour session. There were thousands of rabbits and they were easy runs. I ran this same bitch in a number of areas in England and Wales and the most I caught over there in one night with her was 52. Quote Link to post
jack lee 137
:icon_eek:toughguy i do recall one lad telling me of that area you mentioned, and it was littered with rabbits, but either way you must of had a very good dog to pull that many, what way was she bred, was she a one off,or do you still have a dog capable of the same feat Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
and has for getting out ,i will be attempting the 100 with 1 dog my self ,with a few friends in the next couple of months ,all will run 1 dog rabbit after rabbit untill it cant continue running ,this will take place on a few nights ,and the rabbits ARE there to do it that is why i want to see how many we can get ,it is nothing to do with proving a point .but i wont be posting on here how we get on ,even if it can be done . some advice-take a shovel with you. To over run a dog like that is sheer stupidity. Best case scenario-you carry the dog off the fields. Worst case-you bury the dog. Ive done all the numbers games and lost an exceptional bitch at the end of a grueling nights work. forget the numbers and enjoy the sport. 100 one dog-CANT BE DONE. Quote Link to post
Roberto 0
if its the kev walker i know, that story is true. i've also gave two lads a hand to gut and skin over 150 rabbits off two dogs in one night.....personally i'd b happy to get ten with one dog at the moment -too many muppets spoiling the sport round these parts, Quote Link to post

Leeview 791
Kevin at that time would of been from Byker then Denton Burn now left to live down south Y.I.S Leeview i do think it can be done, well i know it can but as to you saying it can have you ever got out and gained the numbers experianced the dogs working night after night,no didnt think so,another internet hunter catching rabbits on the keyboard I've told of a case where these 2 lads did it FACT. KW and myself were ferretting partners for several years in the dales I travelled up and he came down, I still do have a massive amount of permission in several dales, we lamped together but trying to keep up with him(im nearly 20yrs older than him still) was like a yomp and just let him get on with it and all this was before Id ever touched a keyboard Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
