arveyboy 0 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Share Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) i was out lamping rabbits the other night with a couple of mates. me shooting, one driving the other lamping and picking up the rabbits. because theyre going to the butchers i was only allowing for headshots and the regular occurrence was to see them with not much head left unless i was significantly over 100 yards. thats fine because it meant 'clean' kills. one thing i saw made me feel very weird however. i shot one rabbit, around about 90 yards, seemed like a more than acceptable headshot at the time and it popped up into the air like they usually do. drove over to collect it and rather than it twitching it was sitting up, eyes open looking about and trying to crawl so i got out the landy to dispatch of it promptly and found that the exit wound on its head was rather sizeable. eye half hanging out and altogether rather messy. now this rabbit was completely conscious and wriggling like f**k to get away from me. anyway i dispatched of it quickly but it was rather unsettling as in effect its entire brain had been eradicated yet it seemed absolutely conscious. sorry for the long winded account but i was wondering if anyone else has seen anything like it. just unsettled me a little bit as i really dont like making animals suffer would add some pics of the bag but the little gizmo to put the photos on the computer is nowhere to be seen. i think we managed about 24 in half an hour or so Edited September 13, 2009 by arveyboy Quote Link to post

mally 832 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Share Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) I've had it happen a couple of times when i've shot them through the eyes, quite surprising really as it must be like being hit by a train. They just sit up and try running off. Thats why i usually take the lab out with me when i'm shooting rabbits she'll fetch them, and if there runners follow them until she picks them.
