this is news i was not wanting to hear.

so because the burrows are well established would they not be safe enough ??

is it really that dangerous?

If the burrows are in sand they tend to go deep,so when you come to dig your ferret out there is a big risk of the sand caving in while you are down the hole.MAKE sure you take somebody with you.

If you can't/or don't feel comfortable ferreting them you could all ways use fenn traps or snares.

Or you could look round to see if there is any smaller burrows THAT you can ferret. Then just stink the big burrows out and the rabbits will move to the smaller burrows.

Well done on your first permission. :D

90% of the ground I do is exactly like yours, It is dangerous digging as TP has said, My mate held me by the ankles last week when we dug down 9ft and across, and it was a stupid thing to do, It takes nothing for sand to collapse and a whole lot more to get out, and if your down far you havent a hope if your alone - Theres times when your ferret will come out a hole a lot further away than you expected, Because rabbits seemt to dig very wide in that type of ground, Just keep your eyes open all the time and I wouldnt ferret anywhere where you cant see behind, or around, and stick to small set, Because there have been times when I have missed a ferret coming out away far out and he has wondered off into the growth...Its just a little different than the fields
