Guest snatch flcc
Living down in the sunny south (raining this morning tho!) it is sometimes said that things are generally a bit more expensive than in the north which I tend to agree with (wish it wasnt true!) I went to a pet store called Jolleys in Crews Hill, Enfield the other day, to have look for some toys for my new pup to be, inside Jolleys they have a live pet section were you can buy puppies, rabbits etc etc Here are some of the genuine pups they were selling and the prices Labrador puppies £750-00 chocolate ones £850-00 West highland terriers £799-00 and the best one Whippet x (when I asked what they were crossed with they did not know but thought it might be a staff x or something) £450-00!! Just goes to show that some people obviously have more money than sense!!!! I think il advertise some of my pups there for £1000-00 each, any offers? lol!lol! Quote Link to post
Guest CharlieC
The thing that most petshops dont tell you is where and how the puppies are bred as well the majority of pet shop puppies come from puppy farms in remote areas of the UK, and Ireland, usually bred from any old parents, often not even what they are supposed to be, usually not wormed or reared very well at all they are then transported long distances with no proper care by middlemen who buy them from the puppy farmers and sell them on for profit. Occaisionally the petshop will advertise looking for puppies to buy from people who have had an unwanted litter off their dogs (Blackpool Pet world is one known to do this) and they will then charge double, sometimes even treble what they paid the original owner for the pups. There have been literally hundreds of cases of pet shop puppies dying within hours and days of being brought from a petshop, from things such as parvo, deyhydration, pneumonia, severe enteritis and distemper. Most petshops will give a refund, but thats not the point is it? Most of these pups will come with forged papers, or DLRC papers which are not fit to wipe yer backside with, and the DLRC was invented by a puppy farmer who also runs a huge dog supermarket, well known for selling overpriced sickly pups The fact that the Kennel Club does not allow licensed breeders to sell puppies in batches to third parties, shows that any documentation with these pups is likely to be false, or the breeders are lying about the state of their premises. Snatch, your puppies will be far too good to let them go to a place like this mate Always see a puppy with its mother and never buy, or sell to petshops.. Quote Link to post

Guest CharlieC
You would be surprised dave Harrods sell puppies at extortionate prices, now a lot of people dont know that but its true. It is not illegal to buy puppies for resale in petshops, all you need is a Pet shop license, the reason you dont se it much in your local pet shop is because the antis put a lot of pressure on small pet shops who sell pups, so it tends to be the larger branches like Dogs R us and so on. It is not illegal to deal in puppies either, that is the practise of buying pups for resale, although as I said earlier, the Kennel Club forbids licensed breeders from selling whole litters to traders or dealers. Its also illegal to sell puppies at open air markets or car boot sales, although it does occaisionally happen, John Walsh the famous puppy dealer from Brampton in Cumbria was moved on from Ballanasloe horse fair for selling puppies from the back of his van, this is the same man who was fined for transporting almost 50 puppies from Ireland to Scotland a few years ago, in cramped conditions, some of the puppies needed veterinary treatment. the same man is thought to be responsible for bringing infected sheep between Ireland and Cumbria during the foot and mouth epidemic. He also left puppies in the back of a van and scarpoured when a concerned member of the public called the RSPCA to alert them to the puppies crying in the rear of the vehicle. Not a nice man at all and hes not the only one, theres several in Ayrshire who ship pups in from their relations in Ireland and sell them on for silly money, they were even the subject of a TV programme to expose what they were up to, and there is a pressure group campaign to stop them (which has so far been unsuccessful, although its raised peoples awareness of Puppy farming and the perils of buying from pet shops) I have nothing against commercial breeding, if its done properly and within the confines of the law, and also dealing, there are reputable dealers out there who buy and re-sell puppies which are not from puppy farms and which are obtained from the general public, but they are few and far between The best way to hit the puppy farming industry where it hurts (in the pocket) it never to buy from Pet shops, and to encourage others to do the same, if people stopped being gullible and soft enough to buy these poor pups at inflated prices, then the pet shops wouldnt be able to keep selling them and the puppy farms supplying them would go out of business, but sadly, as snatch rightly says some people just have more money than sense Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
Just been to Harrods and they are currently selling Bichon Frise puppies at £799 a pop Quote Link to post
Guest CharlieC
they will be buying them in for a heck of a lot less than theyre selling them for thats for sure Quote Link to post
Guest CharlieC
heres a link to the story I mentioned earlier - cruel b*****d left the puppies in the back of the van to die - just shows how much they care about the dogs they are selling to the general public http://www.cumberland-news.co.uk/news/view....aspx?id=200508 Quote Link to post
pat blewitt 41
If you think the pups are overpriced have a look at the cockatiels etc. £45 for an old (obvious if you know what your looking for) bird, never been handled or anything. I used to sell hand reared chicks for a tenner. The bigger birds are even worse, african greys etc, they just ask what they like for them, thing is though there are always mugs with plenty of money to buy them :search: Quote Link to post
