10B LAD 0
Got a 4 month old bed/whippet and have been advised to have his dew claws removed. This is the first dog I've had so was wondering do I really have to remove them and if so should I do it sooner rather than later. Any advice is appreciated. Quote Link to post

Should have been done at 2-3 days old but you can have them removed now,it will need to be done by a vet and the dog will be sore for a while after. My beddiexwhippet bitch still has her dew claws and has had no problems. Quote Link to post
shell 42
If they look to be growing all right then I'd leave them. I've got 2 lurchers at the mo both with dew claws and they never bother them. My old lurcher had hers removed when she was a pup. One wasn't taken off properly and grew at a funny angle and caused her loads of bother all her life. shell Quote Link to post
