john robbo 30
Firstly im sorry no video again and it would have been fab must get it looked at. A new client and a new chap to the sport wanted to come a shoot a deer just to try it. Well we would have a go on the shoot this morning where max had seen 3 bucks on sunday morning ,we might also get a fox which would please the keeper alot (ME) Arriving at my house at 5.10 we set off for the shoot. Pulling down the driveway and past the stables we parked and slipped out of the truck. Tooling him up with my Sako 6.5*55 and the sticks I said we would creep down the track 90m and look into the far stubble where he had been seen. Immediatly on crossing the bridge and into the stubble there was a deer at the far end in the twilight. I said we will stalk past the pen and get down to the feeder at the far end of the wood and wait there for him to come back to bed down as thats what he'd done the past 2 sightings. steadily passing the pen streams of pheasants were dropping from the roost and passing feet off our heads to land on the stubble."At least charlies not here this morning yet" I whispered. On reaching the feeder the buck was disepearing into the nearer hedge to make his approach. The only problem now was there is a dry dyke there and i bet he traverses the field to us out of sight. A very tense 10 minutes passed and out he popped onto the stubble 35m infront of us "broadside" ("Nice"). I coughed he stopped the rifle barked out and the 139g privvy met the point of aim A perfect heart lung shot. Not to bad for a first timer range regardless because believe me under those circumstances his heart must have been going double quick time. The deer lept almost 4 feet kicked out his legs and made a 25m dash before running into a tree DEAD. A very nice start to his stalking career and a regular i hope, Not all stalks go according to the script but its nice when they do Any way no fox there this morning so they are a day nearer shooting season. I asked him if he'd compile a thanks for my web site; this is the e-mail he's just sent me.... “Imagine the dawn giving rise to a pale golden light over a stubble field. In the distance, a roe buck some 300 yards away. John had a good idea he would be there and where he may be heading. Slowly walking along the edge of a wood, the buck disappeared only to reappear some 20 minutes later and disappear, melting into the woodland. “Give it a few more minutes, and if he hasn’t shown we’ll move onâ€..............such is the atmosphere around deer stalking. The anticipation and fear that you will not see him again and then, after a heart thumping few minutes, he appears, bathed in light and moving quietly into the field some 40 yards away. A sharp crack from the rifle and the deer leapt into the air with a heart shot...........in the place advised by ‘the master’. What a day. My first deer stalk, my first roe buck and praise from John Robson for a good shot was praise indeed. It may not have been the most difficult stalk but it was my first, a truly memorable occasion and one which I could recommendâ€. Looking forward to the venison and another day! Roy think he's captured why we stalk nicely do'nt you??? Quote Link to post

john robbo 30
Great stuff! Very nice weather for at the moment as well - makes the experiance that much more enjoyable. What load were you using again.... clients using my rifle use privvy 139 factory slow but very accurate in my gun no meat damage little recoil and reliable expansion. i use nosler 125g partition over 46g h414 and a cci250 primer deadly and fast in a 20"tube 2890fps. the shot at the top was a clean barrel and a factory, the 2 holes in the bull are 3 shots (nice) Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Cheers for the info - Very nice group there I guess you have to use factory loads when stalking with clients for liability reasons. He did well being close enough to see the whites of its eyes and not let nerves get to him... doesn't half look happy Quote Link to post
