Errr OK In the same way a modern wolfhound is part Deerhound, when they re-created the breed? Or the same way Louis Dobermann used the Beauceron to create the Dobermann in the 19th century?? Most breeds, in fact near enough all breeds are made up of others, so why mention it. Anyhow, history lesson over..... I now see why yer insurance is so much its a pure bred Bull mastiff simples eh What I dont get is why try and work out the percentage of the base breeds (used hundreds of years back) that made up the pure bred Bull Mastiff you have? Good luck with the pups and good hunting Reload Edited September 10, 2009 by reload Quote Link to post

bullmastiff 615
Sorry for my Mistake! I presumed it would be like a 3/8bull X 5/8 Greyhound. If you bred them back to 3/8, 5/8 crosses continuously they would still be 3/8 Bull X 5/8 Greyhound no matter how many Generations they were? How many generations does it take until they become classed as a pure breed? is just when the Kennel club name them as a recognised breed or when they start breeding true to type? Thank you for the History lesson, very informative What I dont get is why try and work out the percentage of the base breeds (used hundreds of years back) that made up the pure bred Bull Mastiff you have? I've never tried working out a dogs breeding percentages before, so thats exactly what I did, took it back to the base breeds, again my mistake. They've been a recognised breed since 1924 so only 85 years (I'll stop the history lesson there ). Fairly young for a breed I guess? with an average life span between 8-11 years, thats only between 7-10 generations. Hence the question above. As theirs some 4th Gen halfx on here. Very true Samba! who knows with Roo, he could have Shit-zu in him for all I know!! Maybe I should just say parentage unknown!!! All the best and thank you for the best wishes for the pups Reload Happy hunting. Luke Edited September 10, 2009 by bullmastiff Quote Link to post
