THE OTHER DAY (LATE TEA TIME) MY DOG HAD A HARD RUN ON BIG EARS.HE WAS A COUPLE OF FIELDS AWAY FROM ME ,WHEN I NOTICED HIM STOOD AT THE ENTRANCE TO A FIELD (THROUGH BINOCULARS).WHEN I REACHED HIM HE WAS LAYED SHATTERED.WHEN HE GOT UP HE WENT INTO THE SHALLOW DITCH AND MARKED THE ENTRANCE TO THE SMALL /SHORT DRAINAGE PIPE.HE WOULD NOT COME AWAY,TO ME BIG EARS HAD GONE TO GROUND,EVEN THOUGH I NEVER SAW THIS.IN 35YEARS ON HAVING DOGS(ON AND OFF) THIS IS THE 3rd TIME I HAVE EXPIERIENCED THIS,HAS ANY ONE ELSE .ALSO HAS ANY ONE SEEN BIG EARS SWIM ACROSS A RIVER/POND.

I'm sure there's been threads on here before about big ears going to ground if pushed. Can't comment myself, no big ears round here!

Not sure about Big ears but Ive seen Noddy go to ground

seen one swim a across a small stream about 20ft this hare was under no pressure.

Yep ive know hunted/coursed hares to go to ground or swim across small rivers streams etc,,Found Hares like to take refuge under the drainage pipes on the straights down here.

happens all the time mate...especially if the hare as beem run before and made good its escape this way before.....they always seem to do it again...

ive had deer jump in the canal twice when under pressure,they couldnt get out tho,so me being the helpful soul i am,helped them out

Courseing grounds sometimes have mounds with pipes in at the end of the running ground at allow an escape route in cover. It seems that certain areas have quarry that go to ground while in other areas its quite rare. I seen beagles mark to ground regually while in other areas packs its unheardof. Im not convinced its just the number of holes pipes available that cause this difference either.
