Lab 10,979
Both my lurchers and the terrier dont let strangers in lol.Ive had to put my lad especially in a crate a few times when the housing officer was in or even some friends of mine took him ages to just go and settle when they come in.Hes super defensive of the kids too ive even seen him watching me when i was carrying on with the kids. The terrier is pretty well behaved until something happens lol and the bitch is the same as my lad even once she realises you let them in she still sits and growls she still hates my mum lol and will constantly growl at her from the distance and even take a bit of meat or whatever off her then go back to growling. In fact my lad nearly ate my mates stepdad last week had him pinned against the back gate cos he just walked into my mates house and hes never met storm before i had to drag the bull x in the house and lock him in a room upstairs. He also went for a mate of him because i was carrying on and ended up backed in the corner and he took offence thinking i was in need of his help.I pity anyone who tries to get in here lol. no offence but a burgalr would not be put off by a lurcher or a terrier. If it makes a noise it wont matter if its a f*****g wee chihauhau......

gnasher16 30,453
Never had a guard dog myself but in my opinion a " watch " dog has far more value than a " guard " dog.......very few potential burglars are going to break into a house with noise coming from it......a dog yapping its little heart out will stop most burglars coming in,a silent dog who will rip a burglars throat out is going to cost you at least the price of a window/lock/....prevention better than cure in my book.

Cold Ethyl 63
I watched a programme on this one time and the burglars they interviewed were saying they dont break into houses if they know theres a dog cos it gives you away half the time. The house has brand new windows and the place is like alcatraz now.Plus i have my panic buttons the police installed ages ago and they trip if the doors opened if it all set

fresh earth 47
Had various dogs liked the cane corso although he was dangerous around men to the extent i had to place him on a farm i got him at 9 months and he must have had bad experience as a pup. The dobermans i have owned were cracking dogs very loyal and trustworthy with the kids but again both bitchs i had would not tolerate other men even mates they knew wouldnt get in they also both were funny around my girl and both had to go after going of her on seperate occasions think it was down to them thinking they were above her but no one would have gotten in the home with any of them. Best i had was my ab she was 27" pure muscle never had a leash on carryed my todler about on her back shared ice cream with her the lot walked to heal jumped farm gates and was very highly driven would run flat out beside the bike for hours knew the difference between people passing and a threat and only ever left the yard once and it was after a junkie that had stole a bag of dog mince out my hut lol almost had to be pts after that her only vice was every bitch that wasnt in my yard before her got stick and she was not trustworthy with any bitch even ones she was reared with
