spanial with toilet troubles

Recommended Posts

It sounds like colitis to me more often caused by wheat gluten or soya .I would change her diet and see how you go on.It can also be caused by stress or inflamation of the colon. It can be tret with anti biotics and anti-inflammatory drugs such as sulphasalizine.atb dell

Yes,sounds very much like colitis.Water for 24 hours, plain boiled rice then, chicken and rice.Trip to vets if no improvement.

My springer bitch kept getting bouts of it,but plain diet and spoonful of yoghurt every day and touch wood nothing for a couple of months now.

I got everything checked out, loads of tests to make sure no parasites were responsible. ATB Lucy

This is a big indication of exocrine pancreatic insuffiency My gsd had that for years its lifelong and not cheap to treat either quite often mixed up with colitis has she lost weight or condition as these are good indications too

she has lost nearly 2 kilos have been to vets several times she was given antibiotics and steroids and seems to be gaining weight

Yes she will gain weight on steroids anyway but if its epi shes needing Lypex or something similar to replace the enzymes her body doesnt make so to speak.I would ask for a blood test for exocrine pancreatic insuffiency the treatments pretty dear though around £70 a month for the lypex then vit b on top helps them recover as well. They lose weight quick and in a lot of cases condition too. They can be agressive suddenly or change their ways kind of thing and or be depressed or hyper id get her tested to rule it out cos the longer you leave it the more damage it will do to other areas my gsd looks like a skeleton in less than 3 weeks and i thought she had something like cancer or a tumour she looked so bad

Id ask them about it and if you have the cash yes i would do the test cos the longer its left the worse it is and it can be missed to start with my dog looked terrible by the time i got the diagnosis.Didnt look like a gsd would have made a whippet look fat.Its your choice at the end of the day you could wait till shes off the steroids which tbh i dont like they feck the dog right up kidney and liver problems years on and agression weight gain and all sorts of crappy side effects they can feck up the adrenal gland as well. Then give it a week or two and see if she loses any weight if yes then backl to vets for the blood test if not then i would leave it.It depends what your vets like as well are you going to have to remortgage your house for it or are they reasonable. If reasonable id go for it to give myself peace of mind but i am easy spooked with my two if theyre ill i sit all nite making sure theyre ok on the other hand ive been right most of the time when i told the vet the dogs ill i know ma dog.
