waidmann 105
you can teach an old dog new tricks, if its in him he will take to it like a duck to water. we have lost an " older" dog to heart failure while working( jagdterrier) in a man made earth( concrete pipe 20cm,one fox in front and one behind him.he was going mad for an hour so we dug to him( only around a foot deep, normally he bolted them very quickly out of these set ups). we dispatched the first fox( 7.62 pistol) removed the dog then dispatched the second fox while the dog was taken to the car, very wobly on the legs. he died on the way to the vets. conclusion of the vet heart failure. a bosting dog( 7 years) who loved work on fox, badger, racoon, polecat, martin, ferral cat, boar and deer. well bred and trialed. we bought the keeper a new dog( jagd) soon after who was just as mad for the job. he died last year after 11 years of service to the shoot. atb with the dog mate Quote Link to post

stormyboy 1,352
I think a fit 7 yr old with a bit about it could be entered without to much trouble. If you build up enough antipathy against reds in the dog it should go. I entered a lurcher to fox at 6 yrs old a few years ago and he made a good job of it. Quote Link to post
