niffkin 1
Hello All Quite new to shot gun shooting so i wll be having lessons next week. Any way some one has told me that you should always shoot the bottom barrel first and the top barrel 2nd with a tighter choke . What do you think ?
waz77 15
You get less muzzle flip from the bottom barrel so in theory you should have a steadier second shot if you need it
watchman 256
the first shot from o/u is the bottom barell anyway, the top barrel can be selected if on first shot game is for example a greater distance than normal where you would select it for a tighter choke hope that makes sense iv been so i could be talking rubbish lol
drwolly 8
ill second that, o/u with fixed chokes normally have a more open choke on the bottom barrel, second with a tighter choke incase ya miss with the first shot and it gettin futher away lol!!! alimac 882
for clay shooting using the bottom barrel first reduces muzzle flip, but for game il use top barrel first as its easier to reload if only one shot is used,
.Joe 0
Depends what you are shooting. If driven game you would want to use the tighter choked barrel first, followed by the second less tightly choked barrel. If you miss with the first, the bird is closer and so you will want a larger pattern. I dont think you want to be giving a bird a tight choked pattern when its closest to you! Does that make sense?! butcherboy 68
The going away - coming in argument of course goes out the window with Multi Choke guns, as you could set it up for the day up expect. Not that we ever bl00dy change the chokes!!!!

I wouldnt have thought of it. I've just had my fourth try at clay shooting, but hope to shoot game some time soon, using my o/u multi choke game gun. Thanks for the tip. regards
