ive got an opinel and a muelay ibex!

i bought the opinel as a rabbiting knife and the muelay on a whim as i liked the look of the handle!

they are both good knives but i do tend to use the opinel more as its a little more handy than the ibex!

Always used Opinel for years, Then my dad bought me a Gerber Gator for my 21st. Great knife with non slip handle, and Razor edge. It's been a briliant knife, unlike a Opinel that has to be sharpened vitually everytime it's used, this has only been sharpened a dozen times in eight years. I also ought myself a cheapish Sheath knife for the tougher jobs ( cutting wood, popping joints etc) it made by Whitby and is again a very good knife for the money. Doesn't get as sharp or stay as sharp as the expencive blades but a good tool for a job.

close! its a net needle making kit! :D

was the only picture i had to hand of both my knives!

one thing that does surprise me is lots of people saying that their opinels wont hold an edge, ive been using mine pretty much none stop for the last three days both carving wood and cutting twine plus a bit of rabbit gut removal tha other night and its still not in need of a resharpen!

how many people strop their knives on an old bit of leather after they sharpen them????

once you sharpen your knife on the wet stone or diamond whats name if you run your thumb nail down the blade it feels quite rough, this is caused by tiny feathers or burrs of metal left over from the sharpening process!

as soon as you cut some thing with the knife the little feathers of metal roll over and the knife goes dull/blunt!

stropping the knife after sharpening pollishes off the feathers of metal and lets the knife stay sharp longer!

if you run your thumb nail down the blade after stropping it should feel very smooth!

ill post some youtube links that will show what i mean!
