hi mate

well you got some of the best rivers to go at,i find fridge raiders work spot on for barbel you get them from tesco in a few flavours.

also if you want to make your own bollies you will need a base mix.you can buy this from a good tackle shop and all the flavours you will need...

brigenorth on the seven is a fab stretch......

good look

What sizes do halibut pellet come in? are they pre-drilled so as you can put them on a hair? How long would they last before dissolving?

they come in sizes from 2mm up to about 30mm. some larger sizes come pre drilled but they're not hard to drill yourself. they take a LONG time to dissolve fully.great catfish bait too.

i fish the teme for them and find mainline assasin8 is hard to beat but when fishing a match i will use maggot or wasp grub to float with(about 2.5hrs)before swapping to a bolt rigged feeder packed with grubs and a short hooklength , 9 times out of 10 after picking up the chub in the first half of the session the barbel will be on the bottom mopping up the extras and are ready to be caught . i find its all about the confidence of the fish rather than what you feed (within parameters of course) and if left to feed on a particular bait they will then become preocupied and easier to catch. there is one swim we favour that is around three feet deep and gin clear in the summer months , it has a large overhanging bush on the opposite bank and a lovley gravel run just in front of it. we feed a couple of pints of the assasin8 then go to sleep for a couple of hours , by that time the fish are hard on the feed and relativly easy to nail. if you need any places to go on the teme i can direct you to day ticket swims that are hardly fished and full of barbel.

then your best method and bait is .just fish a 1foot leader and hook ,fixed to a large swivel ,no weight just role a large piece of childs play dough around the swivel ,and use a 1inch piece of luncheon meat on the hook ,keep casting across the river and letting it roll down stream ,but be ready for the take because it is quick and hard ,because the barbal only get one chance or the bait is gone by them ,this realy catches a lot of fish when the river is clear .
