Jim-Bob 1
Call me crazy, as the advice seem to be unanimous across the net ‘do not use a bi-pods on springer due to recoil’ and born out of hard learned experience I assume... now I'm sure I'm missing something but don’t British marine snipers use bi-pod on their .338 Lapua Magnum which are going to kick a hell of a lot more than any .22 12 flb air rifle springer. These guys make most of our shooting skills look like an inept 7 year old. So why is the kick of a springer going to make the use of a bi-pod bad when the real pro’s use them on guns which will kick much more? I just don't follow the logic and I’m sure there is a good reason… one seem to be that you need something to help control the upward recoil as if most people who use a bi-pod don’t hold onto the fore grip to lower the upward kick… or for that matter rest a hand on top of the piston chamber/barrel and applying genital but firm downward pressure to stop the upward movement, wouldn’t this minimalize this recoil issue? To most likely answer my own question I assume it’s to do with the fps of a .338 Lapua Magnum (or any other live firing round) is like 2800 fps and an air rifle is like 580 fps. Meaning the .338 is long gone by the time there is too much kick, whereas the slow .22 is still going down the barrel when the kick becomes too great and damages your accuracy? Even so surly you would still get this firing from prone by hand or with a bi-pod... . Edited February 8, 2012 by Jim-Bob Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
any bag will do fine. I would recommend to fill with something else then sand if you are going to hump it round a field al day. When I still used springers, I just rested them on my ruck sack. Try using bean bag filling, nice and lightweight! Quote Link to post
