HUnter_zero 58
hi guys im looking to get a rifle that will be primarialy for target shooting and wondered if you guys had any ideas on a good rife to start out with Best regards Adam Hi Adam, I have a mate who is well in to his motor bikes. I once asked him what the difference was between a trail bike, a dirt bike and a road bike. He told me, a road bike is excellent on the road, but very bad off road, a dirt bike is excellent off road but very bad on the road, a trail bike is neither very good on road or very good off road. Much the same with rifles, if you want to shoot targets, you'll need a heavy barreled, light stocked, single shot rifle and if your entering competitions your going to have to make sure you have the right kit for the right competition rules but that rifle will not lead it's self to woodland stalking or lamping for example. Spangle 0
The first decision here should be the required use of the said rifle! Then decide on a calibre, this will be dependant on the 'required use' of course! Once decided, then look at budget availability. Quote Link to post

adamthomas64 1
thanks for the reply hunter zero i dont know if you know any thing about target rifles but what would you recomend im looking for a 22lr Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
the caliber im after is 22lr And would you be using that .22lr mainly for formal target shooting or mainly for informal target shooting and would you be hunting with the rifle? The reason I ask is that I was turned away from a rifle range once, simply because 'They' were proper target shooters and had no time for sporting rifles on their ranges. Why not have two rifles? .22rf are not that expensive and target rifles sell for bladders at any rate if you go for an old martini action. As already recommended, .22rf CZ & Older BSA target rifle will see you right and not cost the earth. A friend of mine once owned a .22rf BSA target rifle on which he had a scope rail fitted and a P-H MM1. The rifle was as heavy as two bags of 'coal' but he used to shoot from prone and take rabbits with head shots (every-time) at 100 yards, with the long and very heavy barrel there was no muzzle sound at all. HUnter_zero 58
thanks for the reply hunter zero i dont know if you know any thing about target rifles but what would you recomend im looking for a 22lr I'm not expert on target rifles but if your looking at formal target shooting then I know they have strict requirements, such as no scopes I'm guessing that your not a member of a club yet? Why not go along to a club and have ago, that way you will see what kit you need. I have seen general target rifles being sold for £2! all the way up to £1000, I'm guessing there must be some reason Give these guys ago buddy : Leicester and District Small-bore Rifle and Pistol Club Contact Person: John Fudge / John.pennineway@btinternet.com Phone: (0116) 2872465 The range was officially opened by Sir Frederick Oliver on the 24th July 1937. RicW 67
the caliber im after is 22lr First make of choice in 22lr target rifles is Anschutz. No ifs or buts. CZ are great sporting rifles but if your main interest is target shooting then Anschutz do sporterised versions of their target arms. To get started you could still do a lot worse than pick up a 2/h BSA falling block. I started with one 45 years ago! Bloody good little guns, but being single shot not really on for field use. Mr_Logic 5
oh I dunno, you could use an old BSA at a pinch - at least they're accurate! Quote Link to post
