lilpip1234 62
i personally would go for a working stud at least you know what the dogs could turn out like Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
The plus side is if you use a k.c registerd working whippet and you kennel club register them then exstortionate prices can be charged for them as people seem more willing to pay £400 for a pup sooner than £200 for a pup that even though they are pure whippets but not K.C reg.atb dell But hes wanting to mate his Staffie so that really dont come into it Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

Not unless your trying to hide your dog from a keepers gaze.. I have a white dog and 2 black dogs and the black dogs are definately harder to see in the dark 1 Quote Link to post

RichyWales 0
I got both types and I'd go for the larger boned any day of the week, my boys 23tts, sire: drakesoak top of the bill, sooty sam, oakbark lines and hes built like a brick sh*t house, much more hardy than the others if your working em. The finer ones are better in the turns but not in the same league with speed and strength. Even took a bad kick to the face from a realy big horse and came out of it with a nothing more than concussion and a black eye. Would have killed the racing types outright. He plows through hedges and doesn't hurt himself where as the racing types are always getting nic's and cuts just from running around a field. Bigger the better Quote Link to post
jusar whippets 10
I breed purebred KC reg whippets, and i have both workers and racing dogs out of the same litters. All the talk of KC being a waste of time is total crap. If someone wants a purebred to show, then i can supply, if someone wants a purbred to work, then i can also supply. Simples And no i'm not flogging any at the moment i hasten to add The trick is in the training and the owner, not the dog. The dog has an inherant natural instinct to run, so it needs to be taught. No one dog will be ideal at everything quarry wise, distance wise and endurance wise etc.. Same as women & cars Quote Link to post

mally 832
There's plenty of good Kc working whippet stud dogs around i know a few that are advertised on the working whippet forum. I've been out with one that i really like he's lynperry bred and is 21", works like a dream. I'd be more inclined to use a larger size whippet to bring the size up, you'll still get a nice strong pup with the staffy blood from your bitch. I know of a few that use the APT cross whippets and the 1/4 crosses look really well. Personally i only keep Kc registered whippets i've only bred a couple of litters. The first litter i bred were racing lines x sooty sam lines i was pleased with this litter but the pups didn't throw to type, some were racey and some were of the stronger type. The pups were a little on the hyper side for my liking, i put this down to the racing blood. One of the bitches is running really well at the lancashire whippet racing club (better late than never). The bitch i kept back (Tilly) was starting to show her ability in the field but unfortunately she was stolen whilst i was walking her. The second litter i bred were show lines x sooty sam lines this litter threw more to type. The pups were like peas in a pod of the same type a nice size The bitches were spot on 20" and the dogs just under 21" all a nice build. I kept a bitch back out of this litter and she's turned out to be the best rabbiting dog i've had in over 25 years of keeping lurchers and whippets. She's very laid back and has taken to ferreting and lamping like a duck to water. She will only run as fast as she needs to to keep in touch with the rabbit and then times her strike, she's also the heart of a lion. It's a pleasure to see her working. Vixen is 20" and 30lb I plan on breeding Vixen in the spring and i've picked a show bred dog again thats just under 20" and 30lb. I wish you luck with breeding your bitch if you would like details on the stud dog please pm me for my phone number and we'll have a chat. I also know someone who lives in cheshire that has a nice type of dog, i think he's a couple of stud dogs at the moment. Quote Link to post
