blackstaff 488
I have been looking into the whippet world for a few months now and can't quite choose between a working whippet and a kc whippet for a stud to my bitch  . I understand that workers will be a little more robust to working but also that the KC dog might be a better option as for size. I am aiming to produce a dog around the 20in mark and dark in colour for when out at night I am wondering if anyone has done a first cross and what the litter came out like. Do i need a taller stronger working dog that may come out slightly heavy due to the bull. Or use a KC dog thats slightly smaller and hope that the bull blood will thicken up the bone a bit ? My bitch stands around 17 1/2in and weighs 35lb. Thanks in advance Quote Link to post
lurcher lass 9
personally i'd use an experienced working stud whippet . . one who is working well, have seen him work etc some workers are KC reg i believe mike browns are . . the smaller racing type whippet i wouldn't have near my dog, but thats just my opinion,,,,what breeding is your bitch? poacher3161 1,766
Go for the working type the out and out racing type dont seem as robust to me and it is pure whippets i mean not non ped racing whippets. The lynperry looks a good sturdy type.atb dell Quote Link to post

Thanks in advance simple fella, if you want working pups that are dark and around 20" i would look for a working black 20" whippet i wouldnt worry about the kc bit but i would make sure it was doing the business by the way 35lb at 17,5" is one heavy dog Quote Link to post

Blackstaff I've a 1stX headstrong, works the heaviest of cover, reed, heather, ferns, bramble, and blackthorn, stamina bottomless still going when the others have moved on, fast and agile enough to catch rabbits on the run, show her a ferret and completely focusses on the job in hand tip toeing over a warren indicating a rabbits imminent bolt a cracking bitch thats good to have as a team member The Downside: shes hard mouthed, reluctant retriever although shes getting better, height only 20" and when shes in dense cover can flush the tightest of rabbits but cant see over the top where its gone Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
blackstaff 488
Cheers peeps Shepp - I agree with you mate for sure, just i'm sure alot of the people who looked in would of had some good points of view on the subject, and maybe some experiance of this cross, the same As Leeview. As for my bitch being 35lb IMO that is not too heavy, i could probably get her to around 32 - 33lb if fully conditioned but i prefer my dog with a little cover. I respect your opinion though. Leeview - Cheers for the insight into what i'll hopefully be looking at in the future, happy hunting ! Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
The plus side is if you use a k.c registerd working whippet and you kennel club register them then exstortionate prices can be charged for them as people seem more willing to pay £400 for a pup sooner than £200 for a pup that even though they are pure whippets but not K.C reg.atb dell Quote Link to post
