Trev 4
What will an english bull terrier add to the gene pool of a lurcher that a bulldog cant??? Serious question fellas, if ye looking a bullx why use an english bull, they will add nothing more then whats allready there from a decent workin bulldog, which arent used in alot of matings anyway. Just interested in peoples opinions??? Quote Link to post
spep21 0
Don't know much about the bulldogs but they are quite popular so must do ok. I have an EBT that works better than anything that I have seen. They have a great nose, very strong, don't give up and are brave. Quote Link to post
Trev 4
Just to clarify when i speak about bulldogs im not refering to english bulldogs, im talking about american. So what can the english add that the american cant??? Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
When Trev says American Bulldog....he doesn't mean an "American Bulldog" as in Johnson, Scott etc....more like Mayfield, Patrick, Corvino, Sorrells.... Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
did see one at a working dog show down the new forest.sorry no pics but he was a nice looking dog.and the guy said he was over the moon with him. why aren't they that popular then ??? its because they are one of the most useless dogs ever created, bred only to be a showdog never a working dog, they are prone to cancers, are often deaf or directionly deaf, suffer with ear problems, lack breathing ability and have very poor eyesight,so yes they will create the ultimate strong lurcherNOT,im not being a no it all ive had bull terriers for many years now yes that is there name not english bull terriers, and they will work with terriers always seem obsessed with holes for some reason,i love these dogs with a passion but as pet guard dogs but i dont think much to using them in lurcher breeding Would have to agree with all you've just said on the 'merits' of Bull Terriers, all of those faults are there but i'd have to agree with Spep21, in that my old dog worked as well as any dog I've owned since above ground, performed all the 'none running' tasks of my half crosses as well as if not better, the dog was one hell of a hunter, simply ,he was one hell of a dog! Yep, a million things as to why these animals should be all wrong in the field but if brought up with it seem to excel and this is not the first case i've heard of. As for first cross BT's be nice to see, let alone have a report on one, i've chased everyone on here and none have shown me the genuine article but unless someone has sommat exceptional, stick to what ye know. ERYRI 1
no ones going to see one or have a report on one if people dont try something different though . the 'bull dog' x es are everywhere so you wont see a 1st x ebt if everyone 'sticks to what they know' or in some cases what they think they know. are the 'bull dog' x's better or are people just too scared to try something different to what every one else has got. correct me if i'm wrong but i would have thought performance wise there wouldnt be that much of a difference between them Quote Link to post

stevemac 433
Over here the english bull terriers have been one of the main stays of hunting dogs in ausralia for decades wether they are first crosses used for foxes or line breed dogs used for pighunting the bully has been x with everything. the reason the staff has never been used much over here because they are to small and bring the size down on any thing they are crossed with. The pittbull has been used by some in latter years but relly the dogs that are produced are no better than the bully x's. Quote Link to post
