salclalin 240
Don't shoot the fecking cat,you would land in deep shit. A dog got itno my Ducks back last year and killed them all, i phoned the Police to find out my rights. They turned up within 10 minutes stating that i could not Destroy the Dog and that they had to return it to it's owner. If it wasn't for the fact there was .many people about i wouldn't have bothered to phone the Law and shot the fecking thing Quote Link to post

talpa 55
Unfortunately most of the posts on this thread are so typical of the information gathered and used by OUR enemies. So many threads are now posted by children, oddballs and the criminally insane. I would not be overly concerned by Cats, if you have a tall fence or electric fence that will be adequate. There will always be other predators about that will take your birds and worrying about one cat is missing the elephant in the corner of the room. I have birds ranging within a 75m elctric fence and often outside it. There are many cats that frequently pass over my land and none have ever taken much notice of the birds, but I have lost birds (Quail, Hens, Duck )to Mink, Fox, Rats, Polecat and one of my own dogs who retrieved a Hen that had flown over the fence(shock killed it). To those with no knowledge, too much bravado and nothing else in their life, sit back, have a think about your posts. Stop posting B*****KS and hopefully you wont send us into a world where we are stopped from following our loves and passions due to posts such as those above and elsewhere on this forum at the moment are used to demonstrate how cruel, unthinking uncaring and unlawful WE are. Your actions and words tar US with a very sticky brush. Head in hands Talpa Quote Link to post

lurcher lass 9
the electric fence is a good idea though pricey but would also work with the odd fox, theives etc if you only want to prevent the one can, i'd say do i water sprinkler sysem close to the hens and have heard sprinkling black pepper and garlic along the fence boundry should help prevent said cat even coming in your garden in the first place i haven't heard of a cat taking hens but i understand you concern also avoid listening to some comments on here that could land you with a whole heap of trouble!! hope this helps Annemarie xxx Quote Link to post
brock1 2
If the chicken start getting killed lock them up put the dog in the garden then it comes back for another chicken with a bit of luck your dog will get a cat by accident becouse accidents happen & are just one of them things we cant do nothing about. Thats what i done when the local cats started sitting out side my dog pens at night setting me dog of barking all night. Why should i get complaints becouse of some c*nts cat? just let the dog have the run of your garden day & night then its the cats falt for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. rabbit tourmentor 29
build your self a proper chicken pen fella if you live in the countryside you are going to have problems with foxes aswelll so i suggest that you build a pen with a mesh roof and dig mesh into the floor all around the pen then cover with gravel or dirt Quote Link to post

andybrock 2
Hi guys. I just bought my 8yr old son 3 bantams at the weekend. I have a really nice coop which I made. My wife also wants 3 or 4 chickens for eggs and just pets. Although the birds are or will be managed, the chickens will have access to an open top pen. I live in the country with one neighbour next door and a small development 60yrs down the road. My neighbour has a cat that kill and hunts all day, they half time never feed it going of on holidays and letting it run at large. If this cat attempts to kill my chickens or bantams, can I shoot it? I need to be sure as my neighbour is a police man and in 5 year has grunted hello to me twice. They never talk to anyone. So what are our rights to protect our livestock without getting into trouble witht he law. PS asking them to keep the cat under control is not an option, my wife did try to talk to them and they asked her forcefully to leave but not [bANNED TEXT] they complained about my 13yr old Irish Terrier pooping in MY OWN Yard. Yes you read that correctly. Help me out here I've kept bantys and chickens virtually all my life and have never had cats bothering them, for there size a bantam when it feels it's in danger can be very aggressive I’ve even seen hardened farm cats go out of there way to avoid confrontation with bantams so I don't think cats will be a problem, foxes, mink etc will be your problem.
