The river is largely very shallow in many places you can wade across and it will rarely go over your knees and some places not over your ankles. There are carp pretty much everywhere but finding the spots that hold the real big ones is tricky. Nobody fishes for carp in New Mexico, I am probably the only angler concentrating on carp in an area larger than the whole of England. I may have to go to a hair rig as far improving bites goes, I still dont have any real carp gear I am muddling through with crap American tackle. I went and tried a new spot last weekend with so so success. Main problem was Soft shell Turtles I caught seven of them, on corn, bread, worm and crawfish. The carp were there in small numbers I caught four the smallest about 6oz the largest about 3 or 4lb. I know there are big fish around perhaps upto 40lb but I need to find the spots that hold them. By next season I will hopefully have sussed it it and have better gear. Here are few pics from the weekend. River here was mostly shallow with a fast deeper channel in center I fishing an eddy in front of an island Soft shell Turtle Biggest carp I caught on bread. My girlfriend with a turtle she caught, you can see the eddy I was fishing maybe 3ft deep in the still water. all the best Terence Quote Link to post
