Deker 3,478
This is not an area I'm big on or have a lot of involvement with so I could do with some help please... .... having a chat with a pal today who is after a 17HMR for Canada Geese...now PLEASE, lets not get into the suitability or not of the tool..the question is... Lead cannot be used on duck/goose/wildfowl as far as I'm aware but this is only shot..not bullets.... Someone please straighten me out with the use of lead and on what water birds etc, preferably quoting the appropriate Act and sections. I know there are variations for Scotland...I need to know the situation in ENGLAND. Many thanks Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
The Act which covers the use of Non Toxic shot stipulates that it only applies to shot designed to be fired from a shotgun. It is perfectly legal to shoot them with a Rifle bullet of any calibre and weight. Providing your FAC is adjusted accordingly of course. I'll see if I can find the Act From what I can find, this is the set of Regulations that relate to it. Notice it only prohibits the use of a Shotgun firing Lead "shot" http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1999/19992170.htm Quote Link to post

Now this particular FEO is a complete prat, and I have told him so several times, it would give me great pleasure to tell him again on this one, but, as I'm sure you can understand I want to be very confident in what I am saying!! SportingShooter 0
Yeah, you need to have your facts absolute. If you have a read through the set of Regulations above and see if you can find anything in relation to shooting Wildfowl with a Rifle. There is a clause somewhere that I have read that makes the point quite clear about shooting fowl with a Rifle. I'll see if I can track it down. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Yep, I just had a good look at the regulations, it is specific to shotgun in there. So unless he can provide another set of regs or an Act of Parliament, it's legal! Canada goose surely qualifies as vermin anyway, since it is now listed on the general license along with crows etc. Now, if I was an FEO and someone asked me for HMR specifically for geese, I wouldn't grant it but that it is because of the Reason We're Not Allowed to Discuss! I would tend to on the HMR for the job anyway.... but lets leave that one alone. Good point on the Vermin side and the General Licence, so perhaps our FEO has got in wrong on 2 counts...wouldn't surprise me at all.......I'm sure you can guess who it is!! Quote Link to post
