StephOC 6
nercwys - I can't believe I didn't think of that - - I had a sick cow once and she perked up instantly when given glucose water to drink! How could I have forgotten that?! Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
Nice to hear its still hanging in there steph Quote Link to post
StephOC 6
Thanks for all the encouragement, (although Longnetter, I am a female  ) The ferret is still really quiet, but is eating and drinking so I have every hope he'll make it. I'm not worried about the cuts on his back as they don't seem too sore for him. He has what looks like a big bruise on his underside and a lump on his face - maybe a dodgy tooth or something, but since I'm cutting up all his food tiny, and its going down, I hope this isn't too bad a thing for him. I'll try and find my camera charger and take some pictures for you all. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Steph thats really great news , all you can do is take each day as it comes , the food sounds spot on , keep at it Quote Link to post
nercwys 10
If the water does not work try milk from your cow and put sugar in that.lol all jokes aside tho well done. Quote Link to post

StephOC 6
I took some pictures of the ferret last night. Not sure how well they'll look as had to crop them down a fair bit and my camera (nor my photography) are great! Quote Link to post
StephOC 6
And her's another couple, (worse photos I'm affraid) of some of the puncture wounds acros his back and the bruise is on his underside. (i'm assuming its a bruise ~ can ferrets just have coloured skin like this?) Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
He is in a bit of a state poor thing, all i would do is keep changing his bedding & keep the feeding him up , he seems pretty steady not all collapsed looking Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
Christ he looks rough have you thought of washing him with flea shampoo then just keeping him warm and feeding him till hes happy and moving about under his own steam ??? Quote Link to post
StephOC 6
Thanks Kay, I'll keep on the case. He's picked up a lot, he was walking about inquisitively last night for the first time since I've had him. In the top couple of photos you can make out the lump on the right side of his face and also he has a 'gunky' left eye. The vet said the lump could be an old injury, and even if new, would take a long course of strong antibiotics, so he said just to wait and see. So long as he's eating lots and putting on wieght, I don't think he can be in too much pain? Quote Link to post

Steph the lump could be an abcess as you have mentioned puncture wounds , maybe a cat had a go at him Quote Link to post
StephOC 6
The One - the vet said to bath him, but I haven't, as I didn't want to stress him out any more. He's not been scratching, I think most of that black in him is flakes of dried blood from the scabs and cuts. Do you think I should wash him? I have been leaving him alone to sleep and eat as he wants ~ this is the first time I've taken him out of the cage, and he was back to his sleeping within 10 mins, his house is very cozy. He's on a mixture of minced pork, chicken, lambs liver and 1/2 egg/day. Quote Link to post
