Rabbithunter 456
I was thinking, there seems to be a lot of people taking ill, especially through the winter months, with all sorts of different cold's and different "24 hour" bugs. Do you think that we, as a nation are too clean? I would say to a certain extent YES WE ARE. Is it really neccesary to wash your hands everytime you have had a piss, NO its not, unless you have pissed on your hands although im more likely to piss on my feet . Us fella's know where our cock's have been and we know when there dirty enough to have to wash the hands after touching :11: Do we really need to cover our mouths when coughing?? As a matter of good manners, yes we do, but when your on your own, or with the lads, who is bothered? I was working in somebodys house when i had an upset stomach, i asked her some Ibuprofen (spelling????) she got me some and i went to take it off her, she pulled back "uhhh dont touch me" at first i thought she was joking, but she wasn't. She got me a tablet out (so i didnt have to touch the packet) Do people not stop to think the reason we get ill all the time is because we are to clean? We do need to get some bacteria into us, to build up a certain immunity. You can if you like compare it to rabbit with mixy. When it was first introduced, it wiped out 99% of the rabbit population, but now it would be lucky to wipe out 9% (and even 9% of the rabbit population is a big number) Are we living in a society covered in cotton wool? Or are we all just big wusses?
Lennard 10
There is something called the "hygiene hypotheses" that says that an immune system challenged at early age by pathogens/worms is less apt to auto-immune disease like allergies. Till quite recent human population (in the West here) dynamics were influenced a lot by a high birth rate and a lot of dying of disease. If antibiotics and hygiene weren't around we would be dying like mixy rabbits at times. So as I see it we have to allow kids to get dirty and adults can be a lot dirtier too...maybe fends of the allergies and cuts costs on soap...while trying to keep real pathogens from lepracy to HIV down. Also it seems to me that currently we live with a "avoiding risk" culture (here)...where all physical risks must be eliminated or insured or something, combined with all the medical info people can get these days it might be that some "risks" are exagerrated. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Do you think that we, as a nation are too clean? Well ..... I can't speak for you, mate, but it's funny you should have started this thread. Only, just the other night I actually posed a very similar question myself ~ then realised I was knackered, whaffling, and scrapped it But I was inspired by a comment in Moll's " What can't you bring yourself to do " thread. Side By Side answered, simply; " Wash! " That f***in cracked me up rotten! Me sitting there, stinking to high heaven, in a room most squatters would turn down. I don't actually consider myself an inherrantly dirty person, mind. My people weren't and my siblings aren't. Only me. But I just see myself as Practical. I'm the one who - by life style - is always working in and dealing with 'sh*t', day in, day out. What's the point in getting clean and changing ones clothes each night, just to sleep, wake up, and get straight back into a state?! Anyway, this cottage has no hot water and no washing machine. How in hell am I supposed to get, let alone remain, squeaky clean all the time? No b*stard to see me anyway, except the dogs and the 'stock. And they all seem to go out of their way to make me dirty anyway. Why fight it? We don't care. But you're really looking at personal hygiene, aren't you? Fair enough; I wash my hands, in cold water and soap, after I've handled something dead and rotten with my bear hands and before I eat something with those hands. That, in all honesty, is about it with me. Of course, I then wipe them dry on a towel that's been floating around out there for months! F*** it! Haven't had a days sickness since I can remember. At least not one caused by my personal hygiene. Got rabid food poisoning from the works canteen, over a decade ago. Eye of a needle stuff. Had back trouble. Sh*t like that. But colds and snivvles? Never! No. I think you're entirely right, mate. Most people today are so wrapped up in their own sh*t they have the immune systems of a f***ing ice cube. Show them a photo of my draining board and they'd come down with something for a week!

Guest MOLLY
I heard a few months ago that people who pick their nose and eat it are much more resistant to infection. Stands to reason really, the hairs and snot in your nose are there to catch the bacteria, dirt etc. But remember MRSA etc is spread through poor hand hygiene. Its not just people who are in hospital who have it you know. Plus some people will be more prone to catching illness, disease, doesnt matter how much bacteria they have had....due to other illness they may have, cancer, autoimmune diseases etc. So you people not washing your hands and spreading your infections may well be causing a great deal of suffering or even death to another person. I believe all of these bacterial hand washes, surface cleaners etc are not doing us any good whatsoever, stopping us getting the bacteria we need. But there is no excuse for normal good personal hygiene. Ask anyone who knows me...ive never had even a common cold MOLL.
littlefish 576
I have worked with people who have had poor personal hygeine and it was very unpleasant. Especially if these people came into our heated office and then left - leaving a cloud of stink behind them!!! It was embarrassing if other people then came in, they may have thought that the stink was from me or my spotlessly clean co-workers!!! There is no excuse for dirtyness these days. Other than that, i'm sure we have all ate something without washing our hands first, we can't live in a sterile bubble. But have you ever been in someone's house and secretly preyed that they don't offer you a cup of tea or something to eat? Yuk!!!
Rabbithunter 456
Remind me not to eat the peanuts on the bar counter after you, are all these people that are ill, the occupants of your local ???. Havent been in a pub for yeas. I have nop plans either, sad you may think????? But who are the ones paying £2 + a pint to piss against the porcelain :11: Also, when ferreting i will quite happily eat a bag of crisps or sarnie, with bloody hands adds some flavour the girlfriend and i never had a burger that day... Don't blame you mate, £3.00 + for a bacon roll
Guest Frank
I have cought and sufferd tapeworm infection from eating sarnies after gutting rabbits, becarefull. The common cold, has lotsa different viruses, it all depends which one you are imune to and how often you mix in big crowds. If your a recluse, living on your own, less likely you will suffer from bugs colds ect. Frank.
