Countryboyo 0
Was exercising the staff yesterday and had her off the lead loose doing a bit of bushing. all of a sudden i hear barking and a russel comes running down the hill towards her with a woman about 250 yards behind it roaring. (typical woman, useless in a cricis) I immediatly think F**k! Long story short luckily I was able to get the situation under control after minimal contact was made. being bitten in the leg by the russell while holding the staff in my arms , one hand on the scruff of the neck and the other supporting the body while it went mental with temper. The russell wouldnt F**koff from at my heals until it eventually ran to its owner. That is the second time that dog has gone for mine and it is very lucky its not its last... Big mistake I made was not leaving the collar on my dog. that way i could have attached the lead and controlled it better, but it would have been impossible to get the collar on the staff in that situation. How do you deal with your dogs coming in contact with others in the field? Quote Link to post

lurcher lass 9
it happens a good bit round my way to, once a terrier came flying over, owner no where to be seen, the terrier went for a custemers dog and my working bitch, when i went to seperate it from my bitch the terrier bit me three times on the arm - luckily was wearing a jumper so only made contact once, i was walking 6 dogs at the time and the terrier was lucky that the pack didn't turn on it, i'm very strict with dogs under my care when it comes to saftey the only thing i can suggest is to introduce your dog as a pup to lots of different types of dogs perferably in this type of situation so the pup learns dog body language and manners when greeting another dog, otherwise this sort f thing will just keep on happening p.s in regards to typical woman useless in a crisis i know plenty of men who get in a right flap over pointless things let alone anything big, the woman your refering to is a useless owner and leave it at that,,simple Edited August 31, 2009 by lurcher lass Quote Link to post

Must be hard to deal with a lot of dogs on a lead when an agressive dog comes along. Especially when they are not your own dogs. To be honest my bitch isnt too bad with dogs but if another dog comes charging towards her she doesnt like it at all. If the woman wasnt there i would have probably given the russell the back of the hand and sent it on its way. especially after it bit me. but I just wasnt in the mood for hassle..... cheers for replys Quote Link to post
lurcher lass 9
i know what you mean, i held the trrier by the scruff, off the ground, that went for my bitch and bit me, and had the owner not appeared i may have done something unspeakable . . can be a hand full at times, but its me job so you just have to get on with it, the most i've walked at any one time is 11 but i time this very well, usually in winter when there is no sunshine walkers around. and i know only too well about the type of woman you mean, i'd like to slap them one! Funny story when I was a young lad me and my cousin went walking his stb up an old country lane and we hear a little corgi at the other side of a gate barking going mental at the staff . A Nun walks out of the house and shouts to us "dont worry button cant get out to you" My cousin being 12 years old and bold as brass shouts back "let the F**ker out" well you should have seen the look on the holy ladys face it was priceless and I was in stitches laughing for the rest of the walk. sorry for changing the subject but the story just popped into my head... rob.i 26
My dogs are well socialised but if they are attacked whilst on the lead I simply let go and let them defend themselves whilst giving the owner a bollocking too many dog owners are very irresponsible when out with their dogs Quote Link to post

Funny times! oh you have no idea of the kind of people i find myself working for . . currently have a terrier staying with me for three weeks, the owner a journerlist handed me a plastic box of dog food -thats all normal, then went to her car i struggled with the most luxurest dog bed i have ever seen!! a gold wicker sofa style bed on legs with a rare breed sheep skin rug inside, handed me a dog lead and collor by a company called gucci which i'm told is rather swish -tis not my thing!! and the owner went to go and get her dog (i haven't a clue what breed, expecting a maltise or similar) and its 15tts brown and white wire haired terrier!! who looks like a decent digging dog! i was shocked to say the least and expected to find the dog territoral and spoilt but he's a charming chap, he really is . . though its name is bernerd... then i worked for a very grand lady, whose house was full of expensive furniture and furs from round the world (again not my thing . . ) i looked after her dog while she went abroad, it was a long haired, silver dapple daushund called Dizrayleigh, handsome, little dog, who was riddled with fleas like i'd never seen before, his coat was full of flea dirt and when i bathed him, the water went red with blood . . and the little dog was so well behaved when it must have hurt him, i frountlined him out of my pocket, brushed fleas and dirt from his coat and sent him home looking stunning and i wasn't paid or thanked for my efforts .. and thousand other stories, i wont be working with pet dogs for ever but for now it pays some of the bills, so will have to do for now Quote Link to post

Its very hard to know what to do in situations like this but if the dog hadnt run back to its owner when it did i wouldnt have been able to hold the staff in my arms any longer and it could have been a different story entirely. I probably would be in the sh1t eventhough it was the other dog that attacked but my dog happened to be stronger. Quote Link to post
Panna 68
I put great emphasize on sozialisation and training of my dogs and I don't have to be afraid when meeting other dogs. I can also call them back from other dogs. (And never let them go too far away from me, so that I could not controll them.) But if a dog would attack me or my dogs, would not be hesitate to kick it in the arse - and if I could not controll my dogs I would not be hurt if the other would do that to my dogs. bosco 3
i know the feeling all to well when were heading out hunting and on the field all last year pups we have in or group keep killing each other when it comes to digging we have to seperate every single dog 10 ft apart to get some peace lol Quote Link to post
Panna 68
...2. I'd kick any other dog up in the air if it went for mine. Might sound harsh but I don't care!!! Totally agree! If the owner of the dog can not controll the dog, should not be hurt from you making it! Someone has to do something with the situation - and it seems it's not them! Mostly owners don't know how to separate fighting dogs and they just do more harm. ps.: if the other dog would do any wounds on my dog I would not hesitate to ask the vet fees from the owners of the dog. (In case it was only the other dog that attacked mine.) ATB, Anna Quote Link to post

ATB, Anna Good answer . You could have the best behaved dogs in the world but that doesnt stop another dog attacking them. And as you all know a lot of jackrussells are suicidal. Quote Link to post
