col g 0 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Share Posted August 30, 2009 im in the market for a couple of 25 yard long nets.myself and a good friend of mine have recently been given some more permission which holds some huge rabbit warrens.in all my years of ferreting i have only ever used purse nets but i have made the decision to make the move and get a couple of long nets especially fo these larger setts.what i need to know is what is the best value for money long nets on the market at present,would i be better off getting the nets in 4z material or something heavier just to prevent tangles and also to prolong wear and tear.also will i need to buy specific poles and pegs for the nets or could i make ky own ,just to keep the cost down. thank you for youre help in advance, cheers, col Quote Link to post

shandy1499 0 Posted August 31, 2009 Report Share Posted August 31, 2009 im in the market for a couple of 25 yard long nets.myself and a good friend of mine have recently been given some more permission which holds some huge rabbit warrens.in all my years of ferreting i have only ever used purse nets but i have made the decision to make the move and get a couple of long nets especially fo these larger setts.what i need to know is what is the best value for money long nets on the market at present,would i be better off getting the nets in 4z material or something heavier just to prevent tangles and also to prolong wear and tear.also will i need to buy specific poles and pegs for the nets or could i make ky own ,just to keep the cost down. thank you for youre help in advance, cheers, col hi mate get your self a couple of 4z 25 yard long nets cut your self 12 nice straight pieces of hazel about little finger width in thickness ie about 15mm max remove all snags on these poles and dry them out buy your self a basket or get some one who can fabricate and make you one you can get the materials from a local engineering company or steel stock holder cost you about 10 quid for mild steel tube 1.5 mm wall thickness and 10mm diameter you can then cut and form it to shape in your back garden weld it all together paint it get some garden netting and sow it around the frame another 5 quid nets will cost you around 20 quid each. attach the head and foot lines you your poles using a cloves hitch and secure in place using a cycle inner tube cut into 15mm thick bands space your poles about 5 yards apart keep the bagging as even as possible. if you make the basket your self you should be looking at about 50 to 60 quid for the complete outfit and you can add more nets to keep in that one basket i carry three 50 yard long nets and one 25 yard long net in mine no probs if you opt to buy a basket then your looking at about to 90 odd quid and again rig the nets your self as you can add to the nets you own may i suggest get your self a copy of long netting peg to peg by martin king and have a word with mole catcher or visit the net loft with regards to the 25 yard 4z nets ok mate Quote Link to post
