bobndog 0
hi all, me and my dad are applying for out sgc's soon, we have ordered the cabinet, should be here next week. just wondering, what questions does the firearms officer person ask when they visit to check us out? if u have no convictions you or your dad you have a god given right to own a shot gun. if you have been a good boy ur laffing if you havent forget it. ur wasteing your time.that is the top and bottom of it to be honest.. Afraid not, that used to be the case, but you now have to have a good reason to own a shotgun, the law now says; No certificate shall be granted or renewed if the chief officer of police: a) has reason to believe that the applicant is prohibited by the Act from possessing a shot gun; or is satisfied that the applicant does not have a good reason for possessing, purchasing or acquiring one. Section 28(1B) of the 1968 Act, as amended, provides for sporting and competition purposes or shooting vermin to be regarded as good reasons. So to put it simply, if you do not have permission to shoot on land, or you are not a member of a clay shooting club, you are going to have a struggle. borntoshoot 1
it will be for shooting game, vermin and pest control, pigoen shooting, and a bit of clay shooting to keep my eye in. Quote Link to post
bobndog 0
it will be for shooting game, vermin and pest control, pigoen shooting, and a bit of clay shooting to keep my eye in. So you have permission to shoot on land, in that case it will be no problem. Your FLO will check with the landowner, and if either of you have any convictions, put them on the form, they have them on your record anyway which they will also check. Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
A few things to clear up here. To be granted a Shotgun Certificate, you do not need any written permission or otherwise as proof that you need it. Nor do yo need to be a member of a clay shooting club. You do need to provide the FEO with a good reason, but if you tell him that you intend to shoot Game, Vermin, Rough Shooting, whatever it happens to be, then he has to accept that as a good reason. The likelihood of an FEO checking any permission is very, very slim as it is not required for an SGC. FAC? Yes you need a Good Reason and written permission or be a full member of a Target club. You don't if you are a member of a clay shooting club. Different Police areas have different ideas, but generally they have the idea that if you have no land to shoot on, and are not a member of a club, you don't have a good reason to own a shotgun. You can of course say that you intend shooting on a number of clay shoots in different areas, but it's a bit vague, it really depends on your FLO, and you can of course appeal if it is refused. In all honesty, I would speak to him before you fill the form in, he may have no problem with it. Best of luck. Quote Link to post

I don't know what experience of Firearms Licensing you have Bob, but generally, the situation you describe is not the case, its far less complex and less stringent than that for an SGC. That may be the case in your area, but not in mine. Applications are checked with the landowner. Nowhere did I say that written permission is needed. Quote Link to post
